Good question captain  :)

I would have thought it would be fine with a regular paint stripper but i have put stripper in some plastic tubs in the past and it ate right through em

Depends on the plastic i guess but most paint stripper tins have plastic safety caps  ;)
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

You could try a really small dab on the washer and see how it goes. If it does mark it you should be able to spin the washer round, hiding the mark  :daumenhoch:

Hi Richard - Would you mind letting me know what make of stripper you used please? I've got to do the same and thought I'd use same product as you did if it worked well and didn't damage the plastic washer. Many thanks  :daumenhoch:
