Afternoon , just got my frame back from getting painted and my head tube is caved in.
Anyone got a harmless, straight forward way of getting it back into shape?

Don't wont to ruin the paint job, cheers ..Jay.

Looks to me like that might have happened in the post (or at least after it's been painted)?

You can smack them out again, but I don't think you'd be able to do it without flaking off the paint around the dent - if it was in the post, I'd put a claim in on the courier/RM for the damage.

Yeah it was the couriers .I will try and tap it out. .. I have some spare paint to touch it up with and luckily a decal will cover it up.
Gutted though...

Hate it when stuff like this happens. If possible try push it out from the good end using a pipe that fits snug in the headtube. Grease up the tube and use a wooden mallet to knock it through and out the other end. Take your time though. If you simply wack it out with a punch you can distort the head tube and still not get the cup back in there.

You could do with a cone drift to tap into it to maintain the shape

A really easy and effective way of reforming that headtube is to get a big ball bearing and carefully start hammering on it.

The bearing will reform that lovely.

I did it the same way to a euro bottom bracket in the past and it really does work.

+1 - I would try a conical drift of some sort. Whatever you do you use though will need to be slowly pushed through as opposed to being hit through, so that the paint damage is minimal.

if you've anybody local that makes stainless exhausts they should have a hydraulic flaring tool, if they've one small enough that should do the trick nice

Appreciate you guys taken the time to give us a hand. I've nearly got it back to shape but going to stop now as i know im going to rush it and cock it up.

Thanks sbd for giving me a buzz and some pointers. Lost a bit of paint of the top , luckily cups will cover that but masked the front and used a round bar.

well done jay, like i said on the phone, i hate to see this and some couriers dont give a fcuk, just take your time and once its nearly at the right shape let the bearing cups do the
rest, a lot of work went into your frame set and to see it crushed like that really makes me mad,

It has to be a very large Bearing ball then

In school one of my friends' dad worked for Schaeffler, big manufacturer of rolling bearings. He'd always be wearing t-shirts displaying a ball-bearing, and reading 'FAG'. ....german school, luckily
