Redline flight cranks, chainrings.
« on: June 26, 2013, 06:01 PM »
If it hadn't been for this video of Toby & jeff I would have never have laid eyes on one of the redline chain rings they sport on their team rampars.
I have seen the design available on the modern day issues in black and silver on eBay but does anyone know anything about them from bitd ?
What colours did they come in etc?
Has anyone seen any adds with them in or even any other bikes with them on a flight crank?

The vid would have been the 1980 season when the flight cranks were 1st released, maybe late 79 if the riders got the parts early.
It doesn't look like they caught on back then either Neil as later pics of the team bikes saw them with the usual bubble fonts cross chainring we all know.

yeah that one is Neil I just got that pic off eBay just for you to look at.
The question is really about the ones Henderson & bottema are sporting in the vid link beneath the picture.
It looks the same as the black & silver new school one but in gold & silver.

So are the new one's a re-issue of the ones from the vid?
Also has anyone ever seen the ones in the vid anywhere else?
Or are my eyes just tripping and it's not the same design at all?
( in which case you'll be able to warm your hands on my beaming chops at mk lol!)

they both appear to be using opc in the vid, and in the only clear shot of the chainwheel it seems a fair bit different to the one you have shown.....

Definately both have OPC's in use. At the beginning when they hop over the people laying down, pause it and you will see  :daumenhoch:

The rings actually look gold to me and are 5 star looking. How the hell did you perceive that ring from that video? Your eyes must be telescopic  :LolLolLolLol:
