Grim grips :(
« on: May 22, 2013, 06:32 PM »
Got some a'me grips a while back and remembered they were a bit wiffy when they turned up. Thought i would dig them out and give them the once over for my new build but they wern't wiffy they are fookin rank

Whoever had them must have smoked 50 a day and had fingers like linda mcartney sausages  :(

Any ideas of how to get rid of the smell? Gave them a good scrub and a hot soak which has helped but its still there and dont want to use bleach or owt that may affect them :'(

Wrap some charcoal in an old sock or something like that, then tie the charcoal sock and grips in a carrier bag and leave, the charcoal should absorb nasty smells and leave the grips more palletable

Put them in a bowl of vinegar as it absorbs tobacco odours.

But then your grips will smell like vinegar ???

I opened a complete from the |US that had the same problem.  6 months later I sold the tyres and could still smell the tobacco when I wrapped them up, now the new owner will think i'm a 50 a day man  >:(

it couldn't have been the white ame supersoft from me as i only smoke 20 a day,  :D and my fingers look more like cumberland sausages.  ;D the ones i sold you had been sat in my shed a few years and were grubby and i did give them a quick clean before sending them off. if it was these one's then sorry.  :-[

Ok so i dont have any charcoal, an overnight soak in tons of bicarb didn't work and neither did some weird shake and vac odour absorbing stuff  :'(

Thankfully they are white so have broke out the gumption soft scrub with bleach.... never let me down yet .....:-\

Just a quick update for potential future searchers. The soft scrub with bleach got rid of the overpowering stench of fags but there was still a lingering odour. I sealed them in some tupperware with a egg cup full of white vinegar and a week later the smell is almost gone. Apparently the smell of vinegar will go in a few days.  :daumenhoch:

I do think another go over with the soft scrub may be on the cards though, can still smell a faint wiff  :(
