My 92ish Cyclecraft XLX build (Pic Heavy)
« on: May 18, 2013, 10:00 PM »
As some of you know I have been chipping away at this build for some time. I had a build thread on here but between moving house and starting a new job I did a terrible job of keeping it updated. The bike is a bit of a strange one as it is an XLX without the wishbone. There are 2 more like it on the museum, however unlike those two, this one has a machined BB, and a strait brake bridge (all other Cyclecraft's I have seen have a curved one). Because of this its pretty hard to put a date on the bike, but it seems to be an early 90's model.

All the paint is original and Ive kept all the decals that were on the frame. The missing ones were replaced with colour correct items from Frog. As with all my builds the idea was to build it up with era correct parts, and I was lucky enough to come across some really nice ones during the build. The 1st generation Kovachi wheels, half wrap flights and sprocket, square edge XXL DK stem, DC Big Dog, and Pro sized Fredz Bars are some of the highlights of the build for me.

Anyway, here it is in all its rough and ready state (Yes Im aware my lawn could do with a spot of mowing  :LolLolLolLol: )

Full Spec:
Frame: 92ish Cyclecraft XLX
Forks: Cyclecraft Pro
Stem: Square edge DK XXL

Lever: DC MX99
Brakes: DC Big Dog
Seat: Odyssey Svelte
Seat Post: GT micro adjust
Seat clamp: DK doughnut
Cranks: Redline half wrap 180mm
Pedals: Odyssey Tripple Trap
Sprocket: Redline 44T
Chain: KMC 510
Tyres: Tioga Competition 3
Rims: Araya RB17

I've got a NOS cyclecraft F+F set in the attic i really need to sell one day.
One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.

Thanks for the kind words folks.  :daumenhoch:

To be honest it looks a lot rougher in real life.  :LolLolLolLol: The condition of the paint is really bad, but luckily the splatter paint acts as camouflage for all the scratches and chips.  :LolLolLolLol: It was built as a rider / old school legal racer but to be honest Im pretty nervous of the forks. They are some of the skinniest "Pro" forks I have ever seen. If I do get it to an OS race I may swap the forks out for some 1" pitch forks just to be on the safe side.

just love the patina'd paint job on that - the splatter and the flaking paint just seem to be so right with the mix of shiny bits - it's magical Jon!
