First New School Build
« on: May 08, 2013, 06:09 PM »
A coupe of weeks back I bought what i thought would be a budget new school bike off of the Bay, it would have been fine if I wanted to ride without brakes but as I hit 14st on the scales this week & my middle age spread is well er spreading i thought brakes would be a good option front & back especially as I've not ridden a bmx since i was around 16 years old.

Ok so the (Subrosa / wetheprople)  Mongrel became a donor bike & I stripped it last week, I bought a 2012 Haro 500.1 frame & partnered it up with a set of 2011 Haro 500.3 forks (all cro-mo) & the forks have those all important Brake lugs).

I had a  a couple of teething problems such as the front Odyssey Aitkin tyre was way too fat to be able to fit a front brake which meant getting new tyres, but i found some Primo V monsters cheap as chips & bought & fitted some Budget but reasonable Xposure brakes. I rattle canned the bars cranks & seat post

Im not happy with the Rear straddle cable bridge & will look to replace this but this is what i ended up with. if you have any suggestions on anything i might have done wrong here let me know Ive added spacers to the stem & lifted the seat & it feels as comfortable is i think it ever will & hopefuly now I have a reasonable entry level bike that should take whatever i'll be able to throw art it . :daumenhoch:

2012 Haro 500.1 Frame
2011 Haro 500.3 Forks
Wethepeople seat (rattle canned the seat post)
Wethepeople Chet Blacksmith Bars (were Orange / stripped & Rattle canned Black)
Xposure Brake levers & cables
Odi Stay strong Grips & Odi Bar ends
Sat Stem
Salt headset
Exposure Wheels
Primo V monster tyres
Wethepeople cranks (rattle canned black)
We the People BB
Cult pedals
Salt 25t sprocket
KMC chain
Salt Pegs (Not currently fitted as i want to get used to just riding again first).

dunno why you got rid of the old frame for a haro ? most people buy a complete haro and sell the frame n forks . lol

u brake front is a bit out of place on this style / age of bike !

prepare for brake rub !

nice tho

I still have the old frame & forks but the lugs had been chopped of of the frame & I couldnt even run a rear, I know Haro's are not what they were but it's a full cro-mo set up at a reasonable price & that's what i felt i needed. Also just wanted a front brake to see if i could do any old school tricks ...... So far I can't  :LolLolLolLol:

Bike looks great :daumenhoch:

I just got a new school bike and did the same put front brake on, pegs, gyro, bigger post and comfy seat to try old school tricks but I have now taken off front brake and a rear peg as I keep catching my foot on it. It all starts to add weight so may put it all back the way it was as its great having a light bike.I now use my heavy as a tank 86 FST for the old school tricks :LolLolLolLol:
