Don't powder them buddy, spray paint them. They look better that way and closer to the original finish  :daumenhoch:

They did silver but not chrome DX pedals , sprayed satin silver ( a light sheen ,not matt)  ;)

I think they did SX in chrome though  :)

I just did the same thing. Cleaned up an old pair of black DX. Decided to spray them with primer then blue Dupli-Color Metalcast. I'll get some photos and post them up.

Came out really well though the paint doesn't hide anything! I had a few problems trying to rough the ends back up after i'd sorted the scratches out aswell. The trick is to make sure ALL the old paint is off and use the primer/etcher. Not sure about chroming them.

Weren't the originally anodised ?

I'd get them re-done, just out of interest does anyone have a good way to remove the plastic end caps without damaging them as i'm wanting to strip the anno off of a set this morning  :daumenhoch:

I used to think they were anno'd too but was soon corrected!a pair of long nose pliers used carefully, maybe with some tissue on the ends should remove the caps. :daumenhoch:
It depends if you are riding the bike or not as to the finish I would use on these. If ridden I would leave raw,as any powder/paint soon wears off them when ridden.

Leave them bare metal. Powder on DX never looks right, its far too thick and the pedals lose the natural texture of the alloy. If you do spray them use a thin coat of spray paint.  :daumenhoch:

No Shimano DX were always painted  :)  . had a couple NOS boxed pairs

I believe this was because the bodies are alloy and the pins are steel  :)

If you are going to use them on a rider, I would definitely leave them as they are  :daumenhoch:

Just to confirm to everyone about whether raw or painted is right , for silver DX pedals .  ::)

When DX first came out you could only get them in Red , Blue, Gold or Silver ( which I remember being raw ). In 83 I got some from Sale cycles in Manchester , when I actually ordered blue  :-\

Then by around 1984 they introduced Black and  a Silver painted version ( bright satin)

as pictured in this advert  :)

I have a NOS set of Silver DX stashed away somewhere. I will go dig them out and check the colour. Pretty sure they were raw with a clear lacquer over them but will make sure.

Here are my NOS silver DX's. They are definitely painted but its incredibly thin. Thin enough for you to still see the texture of the alloy.  :daumenhoch:
