The top part of the headset will hold things together reasonably well but I wouldnt do any serious riding like that though. We've got loads of the part you need hanging around. Just send me your address and i'll stick one in the post for you if you want.

Ah, sounds like you're missing the locating shim from the headset. Its a little alloy ring with a slit in it to allow it to flex that sits in the middle of the top bearing to stop the headtube wobbling. Get one of these and you should be sorted.

it fits in the frame ok but the steerer tube wobbles around in the massive gap. is it just the top part of the headset that goes over the fork that locks it all down when the stem is on ? i ll try and rebuild it again. thanks

Hey Bob. Thats really strange. Pretty much all BMX frames with internal headtubes take a 45/45 bearing. In fact, I cant think of any that don’t. Sometimes the top bearing sticks up a little higher than the frame “cup” bit but when you get the dust cap on it should cover it. Depending on the combo of frame and headset there might be like a millimetre sticking out. Its a bit annoying but it shouldn’t affect performance. Does the bearing not fit in the frame at all?

hi guys. got a headset issue. not experienced with this new stuff. got a 45 / 45 headset . the bottom seems ok but the top bearing is too big for the steerer tube. its a 2010 federal notorious with federal fork. does the alternative to 45/45 suit this ? any suggestions ? thanks
