Guys,

Just for additional info, I've taken the statements below from two well respected sites.

*******************************************************************************************************************

What are deactivated guns?

A deactivated weapon is any firearm that has been converted so that it can no longer discharge any shot, bullet or any other missile. Deactivation is intended to be permanent and cannot be reactivated without specialist tools or skills.

Deactivation:

Deactivation work carried out in the UK since 1 July 1989, will generally have been endorsed by a Proof House. The weapon will be proof marked and issued with a deactivation certificate.

There are stringent requirements before a weapon can be proofed as deactivated and such work should be left to a gunsmith. A registered firearms dealer is the best person to speak to about this.

Any weapon - including prohibited one such as a machine gun - can be deactivated and will no longer deemed a firearm under the Firearms Act.

Deactivated weapons may be possessed without a firearm or shotgun certificate and may be displayed in the owner's home without the need for a locked gun cabinet.

************************************************************************************************************

Anyone over the age of 18 can purchase and own deactivated guns.   All deactivated guns are issued with a deactivation certificate from either the London or Birmingham proof Houses. This certificate has the guns details on it and the serial number of that specific gun. It is not illegal to buy or sell guns without the certificate, but the burden of proof that the gun is legal to own is on you, the owner. All weapons should be stamped (see above) anyway, but the correct certificate helps with police inspection, etc. If you have mislaid your certificate then a new one can be issued by the relevant proof house for a small fee.

*******************************************************************************************************************

£250 each or £450 for both  :)

Over 18's only & would prefer collection, don't really want to post if I can help it.  If needed though P&P extra (they are heavy!)

It can vary massively? Always the firing pin ,and the barrel will have been blocked / scored possibly parts of the firing mechanism

I'm surprised they allow it, I bet it's not that hard to re-commission them. All the difficult stuff is there, an engineering workshop and a bit of effort, you could be popping caps in asses by the end of the week.

Drilling a barrel is the hardest part it needs to be done in a spiral otherwise it incredibly dangerous , I used to have a friend who was an amourer so I know a bit about it :daumenhoch:

You mean rifling, just needs a rifling tool, not difficult. It's all those mechanical parts and all the castings that would be a nightmare.
Rifling just adds spin for accuracy.
Tapering a barrel isn't difficult either. Might get myself tooled up ready for the apocalypse :2gunsfiring_v1:

Guys,

Just back from holiday and have seen this thread.

My understanding is that de-activation is done in a manner that includes several processes that would stop them being re-activated.  These are cool ornaments, nothing more!!

:daumenhoch:

If the mods would prefer, please close the thread.

Thanks
Stace  :)
