Thanks hes on my FB friends list so I might ask him lol. Ive got plastic hubbed tuffs on a bike ive just bought which I thought they were remakes. But ive had a set of remakes in the past and these are different. On the remakes there were plastic parts sticking out on the front hub and these dont have them, Im thinking they are 1985 full plastic hubbed tuffs.

put up some pictures, you've probably got loose ball plastic hubbed 80's ones  :daumenhoch:

from memory......

late 70's-very early 80 Tuff II's had steel hubs
very early 80's - around 85 they had alloy hubs
mid 80's onwards plastic hubs (loose ball bearings, although you could get sealed bearing hop up kits)
re-issue around 2006 have sealed hubs with no reflector holes in them
new school tuffs from about 2009 onwards have sealed bearings with reflector holes

give or take a few options  :-\

Mid 80's you had some 50/50 crossover sets that ran alloy hubbed rear and plastic fronts.

Also they started to make them over here in the UK from about 85 and bolted on alloy hubs with coaster brake as they didn't have the rivet machines over here. these have made in UK stamped on them.

I've got a pair of those.

Ive had a few pairs of new tuffs and all had an extra bit of plastic on the front hub, Ive fitted fake alloy hub covers to them before and the bit of plastic always stood out and you had to paint them siler to hide them. These dont have that and the guy reckons he got them off a lad who had them for years.

i dont think that skyway ever stopped producing black and white mate
they were looseball up to at least 2004. have a look at the spokes as they put a little date stamp on them somewhere ( think its a little circle with a year ) i have looseball sets made in 01 and 04
they re released coloured in 2006 sealed bearing
if they havent got a date stamp then they could be from very late 85 or 86 when the plastic rear hubs started appearing

They have no date stamps and appear to be sealed, I remember my new ones I bought having a hole in the spoke for a reflector

No wonder they're so bright!!!

Naughty for the seller of the wheels to say that he'd had them for "years" unless by that he meant more than one...

yep its a tell sign if they are used and advertised as early and being very white then check the spokes for dates
most people i have spoken too didnt realise they were dated from at least 2001
and being looseball up to at least 2004 as well its easy to buy these thinking they are mid 80's
even the sellers probably think they are mid 80's too
