Rear Brake setup advice
« on: March 21, 2013, 01:40 PM »
Afternoon chaps, my early 83' Torker 280x has a flat brake bridge so need suggestions please of how to setup the brake? The axle is too long and the curved washers can't be used, so what can I use but still make it look decent? I've not come across this before on any of my frames....

Thanks, Matt ;)

Find someone on here Matt with the correct thread die and cut the thread down as far on the spindle as you can  :daumenhoch:

A lot of people use the Skyway Pro pad fins too. Not my cup of tea but worth a shot if you have some  :)

You can get shortened spindles that don't use the rounded washers.

Ah ha, that's what i've seen before but those skyway pro pad fins will be a bugger to get hold of in Gold I should think. Thanks to you and Nick for your advice  :daumenhoch:

I seen Skyway brake fins used, looks like an expensive option though.

Someone with a lathe could make you a spacer in about 5 mins, something like these or try some of these links.

Use a front brake or spindle and turn the curved washers so they face each other making a wide flat washer
But a front brake spindle should do the trick thats what i used to hace on me old hutch :daumenhoch:

Yep - this is what we used to do - turn the washers around to face each other...

You'll be starting a new thread in the lounge - "laces. How do they work?" next....... :LolLolLolLol:

PS - I told Simon you must be building a Torker with the colour of the bits you had off him last week - send me a pic mate, I can't wait to see it. Did you like the brake blocks he found for you..... :smitten:

Thats a front spindle i.e. its longer. Rebuild brake with a shorter rear spindle.
