Fork Thread Sizes???? 2-Hip confusion :(
« on: March 17, 2013, 10:20 PM »
Right then guys.....you may or may not have read my dilemma regarding my latest build.

The link can be found here:
http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=159878.0

I cant seem to get a headset to fit my forks??  The build is a mid 90's 2-Hip Stout Boy using the original NOS Stout Boy forks which are 1"...

Pretty much all the 1" threads I have come across are the standard 24tpi .....obviously except this.....were there any other pitch differences for fork threads because its doing my head in and I need someone to hold my hand while I calm down  :LolLolLolLol:

Please have a look at the link, there are pics and everything.....I really need a solution  :daumenhoch: .  Ive got all the parts and cant build the stupid thing!!! lol.

I would take up the offer of borrowing the thread 'die' and threading the fork again. The threads are already there and will just be a 'going over' that's needed  :daumenhoch:

The love is still there.....just hanging on by a thread haha.

Ive been to my local bike shop now, the guy has got a 1" x 24tpi Die but is reluctant to run it down the forks just incase it knackers the thread up :(

He tried my Beartrap on another standard 1" 24tpi fork and it ran all the way up and down the thread lovely :(

Can anyone confirm to me that this is supposed to be a 24tpi thread cos im gonna go back in there tomorrow and tell him to open up on the cow!! lol.  Im thinking that maybe it wasnt cut deep enough back in the day?

Answers on a postcard please :)

Get the other set of forks and lay the steerers togeather, if the threads interlink then the tpi should be the same.
I've got a set of 2hip Supernatural forks and they took a standard headset with no issues, same era.

Yep ive got some supernaturals too and they took a beartrap with no problem.

Ive got a feeling that the threads arent cut deep enough in the forks.....doh!
