88 RL20II Resto & Build - Updated 26/4
« on: March 16, 2013, 05:35 PM »
Welcome to my resto & build thread for my "grail" build, a  mango 88 RL20II.

I scored the F&F & some of the parts from Museum.

I had some other parts I'm going to use on the build - here's a pic of what I have:

The set isn't without its issues; the forks have damage to the steer thread

...and a couple of dents on one of the fork legs

Finally, the 990 studs have been removed.

Some parts are going to need work  to make them show worthy - I'm no expert but I'll be doing my best.

The frame has an 87 date, there are no other dents or dings so I'm happy I can get this restored back to its former glory.

Cheers for the nice words guys. I'm going for the mango colour - buts its a right pain in the ass to match, I've got about 20 Dulux swatches & Ral charts knocking around!

Did some work on the seat today.
Before pics

I used a scouring pad & some wet & dry to sort out the rough edges plus a healthy amount of Flash - vintage edition!!

For the rails I used Vinegar & tin foil (dull side)

The scouring pad helped me keep the textured look to the seat

The only issue I had was keeping the "Redline" logo, I decided to work around it. Finally I smoothed out the rough edges on the rear with wet & dry.
