That's a good fix. Not many people would attempt anything with a frame that goosed. The endo comment might not be as daft as it sounds Ed, I broke a GT downtube/headtube joint once doing a kerb endo. It didn't get mended half as well as your DP though, my dad's mate welded a gusset on that was the size of a dvd case
