Gt serial number oddity... Anyone explain??
« on: March 05, 2013, 09:16 PM »
I bought a beaut of a GT pro series last year. The seller had it since new and he raced it in British nationals in 84 and 85.... It's a slant back, which I believe came out in 84. He was given it by his sponsor and picked up the frame n forks directly from the importer at Grimsby docks.

The serial number is on the bottom bracket is G684350 which does not follow any of the formats on the GT serial thread. I've no reason to think it's not an 84 as thats when he says he got it new....

Only logic I can apply is that it was one of the first japanese frames but followed the american serial number format...
so G for production line in japan, 6 for June, 84 for 1984, then 350 serial number.....

Anyone explain?
