CW California Freestyle - FINISHED
« on: February 28, 2013, 12:42 AM »
Going freestyle on my next build with an 86 California Freestyle.  I've been after one of these for a while but I really wanted an 86 due to its sealed bars and frame stand - this one comes without the silver end caps which I never really liked.

The condition of the paint was pretty bad so I had it shipped from Cali, where a buddy had spotted it, to my mate Darren who did a sterling job on the frame resto and paint job - the finish is incredible  :4_17_5:

Whilst waiting on the frame set I contacted Juan for a set of CW decals which arrived shortly after

Here they are on the frame, its starting to come to life...

Also in the picture you'll spot some NOS black and white CW grinder pedals, NOS black 880 / 901 brakes with Tech 4s cables etc, a matching black Pro-Neck chainring and some other bits

Its going to be a stealthy looking build in nearly all black but i'm wondering if it would benefit from a little pink or white?  I've been offered an OG pink Tuf-Neck freestyle Ace stem... Not sure  :-\

Chris, I would only go with the pink Tuff Neck if the colour is the same as the decals. Too many different shades of one colour really throw out the balance, IMO that is  :daumenhoch:

If you're going to ride it too, the Ace is a small stubby stem. You could maybe look at getting the writing on the calipers done in pink too  ???

Whatever you choose to do, it will look cool as most of your builds do  :coolsmiley:

That ACS stem looks the dogs - I'd keep that on it - very in keeping with an 86 :smitten:

 :4_17_5:

Yes black bikes are lovely, I have quite a few myself  ;)

I'm thinking black Tuffs although i do have pink 50/50 tuffs they're on a Sport i'm yet to finish  :crazy2:

I also have pink Panaracers but i'm dealing on some black CW freestyle tyres with a lovely local member on here  :)

They went on without a hitch even for an old boy like me  :D

The CW decals are, in truth, pretty easy to apply

This is going to be a beauty, keep the pink bits to just the decals and finish it off with black/polished parts.  :daumenhoch:

Have to agree with Robbo.  Lovely frameset and decals but fitting lots of pink components will cheapen the look of it.   :daumenhoch:

Wearing one of these would create balance without spoiling the look of the bike...

Have to agree with you Rob, i've got a NOS polished ACS stem that will work well on this one, its on the table in the pic. Then i'll add a polished power disc and that might be it as I have a very special black seat post for this build...

You going with black tuffs? chrome 48's would look bling!  :daumenhoch:
