Mid school to old school plus new school! Differences???
« on: February 24, 2013, 10:37 PM »
Hi ya. I'm hoping you know more than me about different BMX frames etc. Building mine up which is 90's Mongoose but want a mix of new school gearing along with old school bits. Just bought some forks off my mate, but now am home realised I had forks for the A heaset system, where as these are for the screw in type, with a shorter head tube ( guessing because it hasn't got to fit past the bar clamp ) PLUS its smaller in diameter. Could I get this to fit at all? Different fitting etc?, Plus will need a bar clamp too. How do they fit?

Should have checked before hand I DUH!
As to the crank and smaller new school gearing I guess I will have to change the rear wheel as you cannot get an adapter to put on the smaller sprocket?

Also with the older solid 1 piece cranks they had the bearing in cages ( well mine did once, took it apart and it had rusted away to nothing!! ) Newer 3 piece ones have sealed bearing now? Easy to switch over?

I sound thick ( ok...I am  :buck2: but I used to have a great Mountain bike I built myself back in the 90's with some 1 off components, like titanium suspension forks ) but once I get the hang of it I can do most things

The gyro can gyro off the planet. Don't like them!
No stickers on my frame plus the chrome has gone too scabby in places. Seat post bloody stuck too.

Yep 9 tooth rear cassette

This fella used a burner frame to do something similar to what you want to do.

"despite the colour of those cranks being HIDEOUS im poor and this is what i can afford :P

i just fancied some input, the frame has had no mods so completely reversible

threadless forks and mid BB + Cranks

im gunna paint the cranks any ideas?
otherwise default black takes over :P"
