rare or valuable
« on: July 14, 2006, 04:49 PM »
just because something rare, it dosn't make it valuable, or does it.

i have a SR vice sport, (made by Akisu), and a maruishi. both similar to kuwahara's i would think these are quite rare. but valuable ? any body else got either of these bikes?

what other bikes are out there that are rare, but not nessarsary valuable?

Supply and demand. No point having the rarest prototype Landar 'spongy' numberplate if no-one wants it. Put a Hutch sticker on it and bingo!

Maruishi's are great bikes... i had a spin on one at Newton Abbot track way back when. Nicky Dalton used to ride for them before being headhunted by Redline. I nearly bought one off Ebay about 18 months ago... The guy who was selling it ended up parting it out because he couldn't get a bid of £65 for the complete bike(original spec too).  I still kick myself now for missing that one.
Something is only worth what others are willing to pay for it.

Speaking of RARE...i am still after information on the SJK Hurricane... Can anyone tell me if the thrash test on this bike was in BMX Action Bike issue 2 ?  ???

(made by the stem and crank people)

Nope, made by Akisu

Said bike was mine, I had it since it was nearly new, it was called the SR vice sport as it was built with SR bits, but the frame and fork was Akisu.

Tell you what though, it is one hell of a well made frame and its a light as you like.

Was originally chrome with a blue Laquer and red components.

The only non SR parts were the rims, seat and grips.

The original owner was a lad called Nathan Ridley, he got it for Xmas in 1984 and I got it in about 89

It cost about 200 quid new and came from TP Bell Cycles in Carlisle.

It hung in my garage for years then I pillaged it for its parts.

Shame, wish i kept it as it should be.

Glad to see its being respected.

I saw the thrash test in a mag way back when and cant remember the mag or issue. The SJK Hurricane had holes drilled out all over it.
