1984 Suzuki Shogun Survivor
« on: January 11, 2013, 10:29 PM »
As i am heavily into motorbikes it kind of made sense to do this. I bought the F & F set a while ago and thought it was about time to do it some justice. The frame was pretty good so i decided to just polish it until my fingers bled and then build it up as a survivor rather than have it rechromed or powdered. Before i say anything else about the bike i just want to thank 'Del' for the decal set. I sent him what was left of the tattered originals by warming them up with a hairdryer and being very careful in peeling them off the frame prior to cleaning it. However, i wasn't hopefull  :( The decal set 'Del' has produced are nothing short of amazing. The bloke is a genius, seriously and this bike would not have been possible without his help.

She is not quite finished yet but here she is anyway. I would still like to get a plain black padset, some Oakley F1 grips (black/grey) and an original MX1000 rear brake caliper in black but other than that i am pretty happy. I have not kept all the parts to original spec but they are era corect and pretty damn close.

Comments welcomed, good, bad or indifferent. Be gentle with me though as its my 1st serious build  :-[ My yamaha BYZ is next in the queue.

Oh, and if anyone has an original advert for this bike in an old BMX magazine (the one with 'Barry Sheene' in the background) i would be very interested in taking it off your hands to frame please  :)

Thankyou guys. The F & F were an ebay find from about 8 months ago. The rest of the parts i have restored or bought in restored condition since then. I wonder where they have all gone aswell. The original parts are mega hard to ascertain and find as i can't find any spec lists anywhere on the world wide web. The advert i mentioned earlier is also very limited in its description but i could only find a scan of it on the internet that i couldn't zoom in on close enough. I just built it up to resemble the original advert so a few things will be changed as and when i can locate them but i'm pretty happy with how its shaping up. The original 'Sumo' rims and hubs also seem hard to locate and the original padsets have long since disappearred  :'( I know it was probably a lower end build back in the day but my love of motorcycles means it is right up my street and they must be pretty rare as i only know of 1 other at the minute but i would be interested in buying another if anyone has one they want to part with. I did place a wanted add but got no response. I would really like to build a Sheene Heron Suzuki Replica with the next one to my own spec but locating one is the challenge.
I will definately get it outside for some full on shots over the weekend  :daumenhoch:

:) Were there 2 different frames used BITD? The mag scan shows a downtube gusset frame...

I believe they did use 2 frames BITD because i noticed that too or they used the gusset frame for one of their other builds and stickered it up as a 'Shogun' for the advert ? I believe this particular model only ran for 2 years so its possible the gusset is another way of dating them. The only other Shogun i know of is also without the gusset and it too has the original and very worn decals (as did mine before del worked his magic). You obviously can't see it but these frames also have the Suzuki emblem stamped into the metalwork near the RHS rear dropout  :daumenhoch:

Very nice.  :)

I like the motorbike branded BMX's. I'm sure a Suzuki Dealership would love this in their showroom.  :daumenhoch:

Firebird on here who does the repo padsets would probably get you a plain padset.

Also how about these grips from retrospect?
