My MK13 Cyclecraft XLX OS race bike project.
« on: September 15, 2012, 09:11 PM »
So Ive been wanting to build an OS legal race bike for some time now and finally got my hands on this. I had posted a wanted ad for a Cyclecraft a few weeks back so when this came up I jumped at the chance. Thanks to "skki3330" for letting me know he wanted to move it on. Details on Cyclecraft models are grey at best but it appears to be a 92/93 XLX with a 21.25 top tube and a super long back end. The plan is to build it up over winter and get it race ready for MK13. The frame and fork is pretty rough around the edges but as its going to be ridden its probably a good thing. For those that are interested Ill be doing a little build thread in here as I go along, so here are the pics.

If any of you have Cyclecraft bits laying about that you want to move on please let me know. Id love to get a Cyclecraft pad set for the bike, as well as some Fredz bars.  I would be interested in any other CC bits you may have as well. :daumenhoch:

I've got a NOS black/gray/white pad set  :coolsmiley:
I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

Thanks. To be honest Id quite like a black and white pad set. I dont think it would look out of place on this bike.  :daumenhoch:

That is the plan exactly.  :daumenhoch:

Thanks I will have a look and see what they have. This bike has the black/silver/gold ones so hopefully they have them. If not apparently Frog does them for most of the guys on the Museum.  8)

I'm slowly chipping away at this build and a few more bit arrived recently. A MX99 lever (thanks to Animal), ATI Pistol Grips, and an immaculate DK XXL stem.  :smitten:

Can't wait to see this one john, I love the era and style. Cyclecrafts were one of my favourites too, they always stood out, even the chrome "plain" looking ones. Don't remember seeing too many yellow ones, looks a bit iffy to me. No doubt it will look amazing when you've sprinkled it with john-dust!!
I finally got my hands on an o/s legal racer with dandy geometry, also one that has a bit of sentiment, a free agent limo. Built it up yesterday just roughly. Needs painting and some smart wheels building but thankfully it feels right. Hopefully yours will too, I hope the xl stem isn't a mistake....!!

Frog BMX in france do them. You can find him on Ebay or just google "Frog BMX decals".  :daumenhoch:

Yes the paint job is definitely a bit Marmite but I will see how it looks when its all built up. Given that its original paint I cant bring myself to change it. As for the long stem I like to run my bars pretty far back, so wanted an XXL so I could do that and still have room up front. The geometry on this bike is pretty strange so Im looking forward to seeing how it rides.

Limo's are great bikes. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.

Got these today for the build. Over the moon with them. I was looking for a set as they were the exact wheels run by the Cyclecraft team but never imagined I would find a set.  They are very early Kovachi wheels built with USA made Kovachi hubs. :smitten: :smitten:
