what container do you use when doing a OA bath

i can't find a large plastic storage tub long enough to put my frame in so i can give it a OA bath

the inner measurements need to be L=95cm x W 35cm x D 25cm

BENDYCAT ELEVENTEEN has already said a kids sand pit thingy, but the one my kids have got is half the size ( thought it would have done until i fished it out)

so any suggestions of what i could use or where to get a larger storage box

i'm sure i've seen pics of frames in these under bed tubs

i use a plasters bath,
works a treat,
im in se23 if your close you can nick it for a few weeks.

that has crossed my mind, but it took my over three years to gut our old bathroom and re-fit a new one. but i did do all the tiling,plumbing etc myself

so my wife would kill me if i even asked

A lot of persuasion, and the fact we need a new bathroom (which I also will be fitting/plumbing). That and waiting for her to go out

This what I use.....bought it off the bay 2nd hand, but not used, for a tenner!!!

It's a large plastic dog bath. Perfect.

Bmx xxx put me on to plasters baths and when i looked on ebay dog baths also came up

But all around £25 +

I use the large plastic section that comes of the bottom of what i can only presume is a rabbit cage thing??

We found it in the shed when we moved in

Get an old plastic bath out of a skip,do the bike,replace bath in skip.

the thing is with needing a AO bath is the volume used and amount of water to solution

you need it to be shallow and big width way

a big tub will need filling up to cover the item - more water and more OA = more ££ spent

so some thing that doesn't need bottles of water to make up the volume will be best

i'm going to my local builders merchants tomorrrow or friday to see if they sell plasterers baths.

failing that, from doing my bathroom i got to know the chaps in our local trade plumbing supplies ( and i don't mean homebase ). i'll pop in there and ask if they've got any damaged plastic baths (damage around the top of the bath and not big holes in the bottom) that they are going to bin.

does citric acid work the same as oxalic acid

where can you get it from and in what form does it come in

As far as i know they work exactly the same. Citric acid comes in granules like sugar and you can get it from any home brew supply shop or cheaper on the bay. Totally safe too as most drinks and tons of food contain it.

I use Citric as every now and again you get a frame with sh1t chrome, and OA can leave 'bruise' stains (which sometimes can be polished out) whereas CA doesn't. Plus like OSA says, CA's a bit easier going than OA.

Homebrew supplies will do 500g of CA for around the £4.50 mark, or get it on eBay cheaper:

Ratio - depends on how long you can leave it in the container - slower = better results with a slightly weaker solution. 20:1 (as in gallons to kg), or a half full bath with around 400/500g in it will do it's work over 24-48 hours depending on the rust. You should keep an eye on the frames etc, and every now and again give the stubborn bits a going over with a toothbrush or washing-up scourer (gently).

Should be said - if the item you're cleaning isn't chrome (ie rusty bare metal) both CA and OA will shift the rust, but make the metal have a 'dusty' dark oxide on it's surface.

Always thoroughly rinse (including inside tubes) with clean water after you've dipped them, dry them off on a radiator or somewhere warm, and give tube insides a few squirts of WD or similar to make sure there's no acid still working away inside.

Ratios vary the timescale but i generally use anywhere between 250/400g of the powder per paddling pool bath depending on what i can get my hands on. 24 hours is usually enough, rubbing stubborn bits with a toothbrush a few times.
Top tips are to fill pop bottles with plain water and put in and around the frame taking up volume and saving citric acid needed. If you are really tight or are doing smaller things in little tubs you can keep it and use it again a few times.

The pool i used was only a 1 metre one that i distort to suit the frame shape and save more volume

i've already got the oa from other little jobs, but if i can't get a plastic tub local.

i will try the citric in a blow up pool.

i would have thought the oxalic acid would be fine in the pool as it doesn't eat through decals, but after already having my garage floor cleaned to day from a failed attempt i'm going to play it save

i may just take the plunge on a cheapo kids blow up pool

for either citric or oxalic acid, how i see it people leave the decals in place and they come out ok. so it should be fine in the pool
