Hi Fellas,
Scored this of the museum for £60 all up including postage and no customs
Was looking for something to restore and use for a rider, so thought this would be perfect. Here are some before pics:
I read bendycats polishing chrome thread and thought I would give it ago here, but sadly the rust on this is a tad worse than surface rust
I got out the oven cleaner, which was great at removing decal residue, then I got to work with the stanly knife blade, but it started to lift the chrome in places, so abandoned that idea. Then tried some coke and very fine wire wool, which proved to be a bit more succsessful, but still not great.
I did a couple of hours on it and now thought I would leave it sitting in coke for a while to see what happens. This is how I have left it for today and more pics tomorrow

Full marks for effort, but if it's lifting it may be too far gone to save sadly
On the bright side though, you can always get a minty powder job on it.
RAL 1018 Zinc Yellow.

Lovely bike that is
I heard that you have to strip the chrome first if your doing a powder job, is that right. Its going to be a rider and I cant do yellow or blue as I already have a yellow mach one
and a blue performer
Ill se how it goes, might trade it will have to see

If it is going to be a rider , I'd be tempted to do the best u can with the chrome and just fit some nice clean parts . Will look good and you won't be to bothered flying Round on it. Love these in chrome

Thanks for the examples and ideas. I have been working on it and have decided to keep the chrom like KAPies above. Bits of the chrome came away on the bb and seattube and underneath is 4130, which I have been polishing up so you can only tell when real close up. Got rid of all the rust so looks alot better. Wont win any shows with it though
I got some painted OGK's which will need sorting too and am thinking I might put it in the budget build off, if it happens again and I can get the cost down to £195 or is it £175?
Cheers, Jonathan

Very good price
I think it's an 84, so great find.
If your actually going to ride it (weird idea
) then leaving a bit tatty, with nice bits would look the bizz
Great work.

Hi chaps.
Took a few pics today of where I have been polishing. Large bits of chrome came off the bb and on part of the downtube, leaving spots of black rust. I am waiting on a dremel polishing kit from the bay and I think with that, I should get it looking pretty sweet. This was done with some fine wire wool and a felt wheel:)
Still more work to do and it will defo be a rider. Here are the wheels which I believe are yellow ogk's under the paint
