Not To Everyone's Taste - Burner Content.
« on: January 06, 2013, 07:36 PM »
Ok, so Burners aren't regarded as BMX's by some RAD members, but they I loved them BITD, although never had one, and love them now. :smitten:

Don't bash my thread, if you don't like Burners, then move on. :yahoo_silent:

I could have put this in the budget build off thread as it was a cheapo build, but that's all it was ever intended to be, just a budget rider.

The frame and forks were in the shed and had been for about 4 years, I took them in lieu of payment from a BW member. The wheels were off my Haro FST - now sold. The seat is off my Supergoose - now blue etc, etc.

Frame & forks - 1984 Raleigh MT CroMo - powdered for £40 by my mate Dave.
Decals - £11 off eBay
Bars - off Snav
Grips - used Tange off a BW member
Wheels - used Tuff IIs
Seat - repop Kashi Aero
Seat post - off Rooski
Seat clamp - Suntour Arrow off Brummie
Pedals - Victor off my white Performer
Crank - 1 piece Sugino from my Street Beat
Spider - Sugino off my Street Beat
Chainring - 40t Sugino with machined teeth off Badbaldie
Bolts - unbranded
Stem - rough as SR, refurbed and powdered satin black
Headset - £14 Nikyo off eBay
Brakes - £20 MX1000/Tech 3 copy set off eBay with retrospect decals.
Tyres - 1.75 Comp III copies £9 the pair off eBay.
Chain - KMC from my LBS

Cheers to Paul, Dave, Andy and Lenny for the bits. :Great_Britain: :daumenhoch:

Not much Stu, £200 on a good day. I picked up a frame and forks the other week for £35. With more in parts. :daumenhoch:

I still need to set the brakes up properly on this with some decent cables.

I forgot to mention the plate was bought off Nathan (macmnia) about 2 years ago, I stripped it down, lost the Velcro  ::) took the original decal off, and replaced it with one made by NeilVW, bought some Velcro off eBay and painted the mesh black myself. The Aero 1 is off Jai. 8)

We all grew up on burners and I love this one  :daumenhoch:

Memories of the Andy Ruffell Ad's  :daumenhoch:
I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

its in line with the other raleigh team paintjobs of the time which were never given much time on design or any flair. i prefer chrome on burners mostly !  :daumenhoch:

Gotta say this is my favourite colour scheme on a burner, I still want a Ruffell rep with twin top tube bars as that was the burner I wanted as a kid, but I had a super burner instead

+1 x 2  :D

I like the Team colours - reminds me of the top expensive spec in the catalogue - and longing for one as a kid.  I also had a Super Burner but never picked off all the gold - forgot what they used to call that - superchrome or some other BS  :)

Well I appreciate your opinion, but as a non Burner fan (but I do own one, see below), I think it is a well thought out colour scheme.  :daumenhoch:

Fine example there Dan!  Nice work bud!

Im with you on the "horrible to ride" bit, I always found they were too short...out of balance almost if you know what I mean?  I bought a Mk1 burner ages ago and that felt like riding a 6 year olds bike so i moved it on sharpish! lol.

But saying all that....I do like the classic look!

the only comfy burner frame to ride is the aero pro, like in vestans post, much lngr top tube and fantastic geometry,
