What is a 1996 Dyno Compe worth?
« on: December 26, 2012, 06:03 PM »
Hi guys... In 1996 I bought myself a Dyno Compe, and after 2-3yrs riding I sold it to a friend. Turns out my friend still has the bike, it has different wheels, bars and no stickers and hasn't been used for 10yrs or more. I haven't seen it but I'm guessing it'll need a fair amount of restoration.

He says I can buy it at the right price... So what would you say it's worth??

Hi fella, don't think the later 90's stuff is worth much but still should get a few quid for it;)

Got to agree with Ollie. There have been a couple of earlier mint dynos that struggled to make £300-£350 recently. A later one would probably only fetch £100-£150 complete if your lucky  :daumenhoch:

Great bikes though. And built really well.

Taking consideration the condition of it do you think I should offer him £50 or so and take it from there?

If he is a good friend he will give it to you cheap, he's not using it after all.

couple of pints should get your old bike back  ;)

the only dynos compes that are worth money are

1985-1986 dyno compe and compe 2 these were made in the u.s designed by bob morales

1987-1989 dyno PRO compe and team model (dave volker) BIG MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1990 PRO compe ( last year of the PRO compe no team model available as team riders rode the slammers) these are rarer than any freestyle bike out there to date, none on on the museum either, think im the only person who has one  :smitten: :smitten:

1987 - 1990 dyno compe basic bike but realy nice anything after 90 not worth anything especially from 95 on

dont take my word on any of this as i only know about HARO bikes  :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

For a bit of reference i bought a 98 Dyno Zone which looking at the compe is pretty much identical barring stickers for £21 off of ebay, cheap i know but i wouldnt of paid more than £50 for it. In the middle of stickering it up as an 85 compe, should look nice when its done.

The thing is. What something goes for on eBay and how much something is worth are two very different things.
Yes some bargains have been had on eBay when a seller hasn't got a clue what something is worth. Hence a bargain.
But a lot of stuff goes, but gets relisted a few days after. As the seller refuses to let it go at that price.

To be honest there are a lot of dynos around. And the design hasn't really changed a lot. So you can quite easily make a 90's dyno have the look of a more earlier 80's dyno. Most people on eBay would fall for it.

However if your a complete Steven costa gt/dyno anal anorak your never going to fall for such listings.  If you can get it for £50 then that is good. Any half decent bmx manufacturers bike is worth that for the parts alone. Yes you may be lucky and get it cheaper on eBay. But if the condition is good you don't have anything to lose.

The thing you need to decide is how much your going to need to spend to restore it. And if it is going to be worth the money you spend. If your just doing it up as a cheap rider to keep. Then you have nothing to lose. But if your thinking of doing it up with cheap repro bits and bunging it on eBay for £600 I think you may struggle.

We have all seen lots of old school crap builds being palmed off on eBay as rare exotic BMX.  But in truth they are 90% pos.  :daumenhoch:

Tbh I just fancied doing my old bike up for nostalgic value, especially as it was my first bike! My mate hasn't replied to my offer of £50, so I reckon he's probably thinking it's worth more now that I've shown interest in it!
