Building a bike out of random spare parts, it can be done.
« on: December 09, 2012, 06:10 PM »
Anyone ever done this as they were bored ????

Had some time free this afternoon so i thought i'd attempt to build a complete out of spares  I'm going to use this as a rider so i wasn't too bothered about NOS/polished.

So here she is, the F+F set is survivor chrome. The only thing restored were the cranks which i had rechromed a while back. I couldn't believe i had so many bits and pieces laying about.

One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.

Done it a few times now, good fun to build a bike out of spare parts.  You can get a pretty random bike at times though.

Do it all the time Andy, that's why my bikes never win any prizes :LolLolLolLol:

Bought my Team Mongoose back the other day and it is about the same spec as yours - ProClass, MX brakes but with Flight cranks......
Still limping......

Nice build........but I'm guessing your average joe wouldn't have that calibre of spare parts just laying around? :-\

I've often though about it Andy, mine always end up looking like Burners. However, I do have one of Brett's frames I could use. :-\

^^^^^ They're coming off soon as i have a black set of Ukai's to go on it. This should break the silver up a bit.

It's the first time i've just randomly built a bike to play with, it normally takes me a year+ to do a single build, quite enjoyed it but the next build is a show build again.

Lovin' your "spares" Andy, some people would think of and start a build just around one of those.
Fun result anyways!

And I thought I was the only one who did that...... But it seems me and Andy (58delray) are on the same page :yahoo_silent:

Or at least as daft as each other :LolLolLolLol:

Check out the 70's, 80's and re-popness on this bad-boy I built out of spares - it's even got some Midschool Flights on it now!

All my builds start out like that, then they evolve (and never really stop evolving)

It makes it easier to see what works and what don't  ;)

I've never built a bike with a shopping list, it seems a bit cold and calculated  :-\ I like the love of a build to grow as it evolves  :-*

My spare parts Supercross build is almost done.  I just need to fit a brake cable and take it for a spin.

Hopefully I can do that tonight
