Hi,

I was a BMXer back in the day. Just turned 40 and my brothers got me an '82 Hutch Expert Racer f&f. Sweet!

So I'm starting a build project, without much of a clue.

I'm geeky enough to remember most of the components I had or wanted back in the day. But I'm a bit sketchy on headset/BB/seat post sizes etc I need - any advice welcome there...

Also any tips for sourcing parts? Obviously there's eBay but are there other good places to source new/old/NOS parts- in the UK, or is it worth searching internationally?

The other thing I'd ask for advice on is the 'ethics'(?) of an old school build, if that applies. Are their different rules or schools of thought on originality/'purity'/repro/mix of new & old, etc?

Thanks for any help!

Dan

Dan.

First of all Welcome, buckle up, it'll get bumpy.

Rules on a build.

There is one rule: It's YOUR build, build it how YOU want :daumenhoch:

Good Luck

sized are 95% standardised with decent 80s bikes. stem 21.1. seatclamp 25.4. seatpost 22.2. bottom bracket USA. most stuff is 24tpi! hub widths not normally anything to worry about!
