Bmx Renaissance
« on: December 02, 2012, 09:57 PM »
I've seen a few threads this year both on the museum and here questioning whether old school bmx is dying out.
Well quite apart from the buoyant prices we all grumble about, it strikes me that there is a plethora of old school related releases either out there or about to be released.

recently released or in the near future rides include

Skyway TA 24
Skyway TA 20
Haro Freestyler 2012 30th anniversary
S&M Intrikat (mad dog)
Hutch pro racer
Eddie Fiola Performer (true torch)
Bob Haro Iconix freestyler
Kuwahara Kz-01
Kuwahara Ke-01 ET 30th anniversary
Curtis Pro
Curtis Freestyler
Knight bike co Performer
Knight bike co Goose
Raleigh burner

Probably one or two others i have forgotten too.

Is it the most prolific time for old school since the 80's?

Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

S&M Intrikat is a state of the art modern flatland frame with old looking stickers
Hutch is a modern race frame with old looking stickers.
I believe the knight goose is as above in its field.

The rest are what they are

Don't forget the VERY limited runs of the CW Hollywood and Phaze 1 24".
Both of which went for mega bucks!
A Mike Buff is being produced as we speak.
Who wants to ride with Eddie Fiola?

And the 20" Phaze 1, although for the numbers produced I think they were spot on the money.

Yep, the Knight RetroGoose frames are a homage to the original Mk1 Goose in appearance only. I posted pics of my latest one against my original 1978 Goose in the Knightbikes section of the museum pages here.

Chalk and cheese. Modern geometry, features, materials and performance all the way......

Has the Ikonix project actually been released as I fancy one more than a copy of the original to be honest - I like to ride my bikes!

Its easy to look at these communities and get blinkered that we are the only people who are actively building and restoring bikes. There's a fair amount of people world wide who appreciate it but don't participate on forums and just please themselves. The demographic is changing though, new people come in and that fuels the retro scene, and old people move on and we lose genuine knowledge. Its just a case that the scene is evolving I guess.
