INJURIES SECTION (OR THE WTF WERE WE THINKING SECTION)
« on: July 14, 2006, 08:09 AM »
SANDRO PIZZA DUDE

Here I am and here's the damage. Any one squeamish, look away now, it involves much hair and flab.

Lighting was poor and I found it hard taking pics of my back. I m sure things will develop overnight, so may get my wife to take some pics tomorrow if they get better (for better read worse).

Bob, you forgot to mention I was doing a backflip over the 30 foot gap.

What do you reckon folks, is it telling me something :-\:

Total riding time 8-10 hours (after 20 year layoff). Been to A&E twice already:

1) Leg tissue damage from Bones Jam
2) Busted Ribs from Epic at start of May. Indecisive move on ramp, ended up hitting concrete real hard - tried to save the bike first which kinda ended up me busting ribs (slight scratch on me anodised MX Brake levers though!). Not ridden since start of May >:(.

Does this kinda thing happen to us all?  ???

Agreed Mr Fruit. I will continue my quest to scary myself sh*tless :-\, thank the lordy for Matalans Bundle Brief packs :) (at competitive prices - 7 for £5, although I don't like the cream ones)

Shall I bring a bulkload to the MK Meet? Old pants make great dusters - could this be a Tech and Restoration thread?

ok here we are....found my old pic of me two days after my surgery after having a bit of an off in the moguls at rom.

8 titanium plates, and numerous screws to the tune of about 50 number.
fractured skull, both cheek bones broke, both eye sockets broke, upper pallette(maxillio bone) broken front to backdown the centre, lower jaw broke in two places, upper and lower jaws both wired in place although no wired shut, oh and the bridge of my nose broke.
so after cat scans, xrays, mir scan and about 6 hrs surgery heres how i looked

no wonder im a fooking mental

Dave, that has gotta top any BMX injury, man it looked and sounded real bad  :-\, can't imagine what the pain must of been like or how long it took to recover...... :-\ :-\

Did you have time to think 'this is gonna hurt' when you came off or was it just like an instant face plant? Bet you've had all the stuff about wearing a lid as well?

no brittle bones, never broke a single bone before this happened, i was told afterwards that when you fall from a bike you hit at 4 times the speed you were travelling, so how ever fast he was travelling at the time x4 plus concrete isnt a good mix

lmfao...a relativley small fall.....excellent.....next time we are at bones i cant wait for you to show me how you can dive from the top of a five foot 1/4 pipe and land on your face without breaking you skull.....lol

remember you are not allowed to use your hands to break the fall as well.....lmao

you said yourself it was a small fall, in a previous thread, but did max damage.

i dont think i could do the dive myself though.
i do fall off sometimes, but i never seem to hit my head. its my knees and hands that take the beating.

its a relatively small fall when your on a thread arguing that you can hurt yourself doing anything related to bmx.

its a massive gut wrenching slam when your bigging yourself up in the bmx injuries section of public bmx forums.....god, dont you know anything??

about ten years ago i was learning to ride in on a 6 ft quarter
i just couldnt get the bottle to do it. then my mate came along, and just did it straight away. and he didnt really ride much!

so i rode off the top

then next thing i know i am on my back next to the ramp.
it was like blacking out through fear!

small in relative terms...its could have been worse it could have been the performance bowl or the four leaf clover, at 9 feet....in retrospect the eour and five feet deep bowls of the moguls are small....i stand corrected

i think you were just unlucky with that slam mate
you could do it again and just get some grazes

hopefully that will be your one unlucky bail. and you lived to tell the tale
