1995 Mongoose Villain (100% finished)
« on: October 23, 2012, 11:09 PM »
Back in the early 90s the bmx scene in Cheltenham was pretty crap. The local bmx track had became overgrown and full of druggys.
So a lot of mates started to head to Bath Victoria park for there fix. No idea if the ramps are still there?
Soon after Cheltenham council built the Pittville park ramps so everyone just when freestyle mad.
After a string of mongooses I wanted to stay with the make and the villain was the bike hanging up in the window of our local bmx shop. So in 1995 I was lucky enough to get bought one.
Here's a pic of it from around 1996 slightly modified.

Brief spec , peregrine bars,v monster tyres, 990s, fishbone cd, triple traps.
Sadly I sold this on around 2003 for £30. :-(.

So this built is going to be a replica of my old bike with the help of 2 pictures I still have lol.

Frames /forks or full bikes don't pop up too often but managed to find this on the bay which I snagged for £30 funny enough.
Thanks to a member on here for picking up and packing over to me.

Haha. I know wtf is that !!
Reason I bought this is its pretty much original.

Anyway first things first a strip down and look at the frame.

Not great but worth an acid bath along with a few other bits I had knocking about.

Well 3 table spoons and 24 odd hours later.

Looked amazing well happy with the results. Forks came out great too but were not that bad to start with anyway.

So frame and forks were sorted and now I spent awhile collecting parts.

Odi rough necks from the USA.

Peregrine q bars. These were from the USA pretty cheap I just need to get these chromed.

This is where I'm up to now so will keep this updated as I go along.

It may interest some people lol.

Stupid question, what acid did you use to remove rust

Oxylic Acid fella. You can get it on eBay for under a tenner. Just go easy with it and don't leave it anymore than 24 hours. Some rust spots turn yellow and your need to scrub it off. Longer you leave it on the tougher it is to remove.
24 hours is about right I've found and I've done a few bits since the frame.

Rear cable set up bitd. Few cable ties and black tape.  :LolLolLolLol:

The gyro cables on the bike when I got it were no good rusty and snapped so ordered some new ones. Then replicated the old set up. As said this will be a replica bike. lol

Been looking for ages for a fishbone cd. Seems you can get a lot of the old school parts but some mid school stuff is even harder to come across. But managed to bag this survivor one last year and not seen another since. (Que someone linking up to a shop that still sells them lol?)
Bit Of a crap flash picture of it fitted its not that bad condition.

Small update -
I've now collected most the parts to build this bike.
990s diacompe
Fishbone u brake plates
Fishbone chainring
V monster tyres
Chrome peregrine q bars (the black bars are now for sale)
Blue triple trap peddals
Rear mongoose pegs
Gt front pegs
New gyro cables upper and lower

The wheels are the only bit holding me up in need of a respoke as the spokes are very rusty and passed it. The local bike shop can respoke and supply for £30 each. But I may go for it myself :-/

Few bits still needed 10mm front axle 175mm. And to try and find an xposure gyro cover.

Slight update.
Sold the black Q bars on and bought some already chromed. Local chromed were going to charge a lot and just made sence to buy some already done.
Fitted the diacompe 283's and the odi rough necks.

Really all I need to do now is respoke the wheels and build it up.
