Toby's Raleigh SBDU Team set up - it's mad to think this frame was made 2 miles up the road from me in Ilkeston.

Failing that my mate N13L VV picked this up last week   one of a handful left in existance. So fooking jealous it's unreal  :LolLolLolLol: Raleigh Special Development  :4_17_5:

Which will be restored back to this..

Did neill find out if it WAS Craig Schofields ??

Mine were the 5 classics that were pipe dreams & way out of my reach as a kid-

Ripper, Quad, TA, Master, & Performer.

All easy to find, the hardest thing was to find was a black & yellow Piranha like my 1st bike BITD

Never heard of VDC & such exotica when I were a kid, let alone ever saw one at Langsett Cycles, so they hold very little appeal to me.

This is the conversation me and lee(scary Leary) had. Half the stuff you see for mega money was nowhere to be seen bitd and holds no nostalgic value what so ever.
A JMC, a Leary turbo, a ripper, a TA and quad etc. These were the high end bikes that were few and far between, while we all had gt, diamondback, mongoose, Raleigh, kuwahara etc.
Some odd stuff in the magazines, but I lusted after the best bikes I saw in the flesh.

Like Toby's Team bike, you'll have fun finding all the parts for that Tom  :daumenhoch:

The parts would be easy compared to the frame Ash - in fact I'd wager you have 90% of the build parts in your vault  :LolLolLolLol: The frame broke bitd  :'( it was one of two made when Toby Henderson & Jeff Bottema visited the Raleigh factory over here bitd. They were the very first two Special bike development BMX that Raleigh ever made.

Henderson's broke and Bottema's was stored by him until he auctioned it off a few years ago.. this is what it looks like today  :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

And there it is. This thread needs no more input as JT has it nailed.

You can keep your VDC and even Haro exotica as the humble Mongoose / Diamond Back / GT and even Burners (the top end Tange made ones!) were all we ever had. I saw a Torker in the flesh once and a Curtis, an MRD and a PK Ripper in my LBS and thought i'd died and gone to BMX heaven, and then I saw a ProClass. Twice the price of my Californian and completely out of my range but I will always remember how much I wanted it. So that was my o/s grail.....

Luckily girls took over and I nearly forgot about BMX after that!

As mentioned a few times, there are so many bikes that come up that i never knew existed BiTD.

But ones i saw in magazines and at the weekend at RoM set enough grails for me.

Luckily i have built all the ones i lusted after. the only build i havent done is a replica of my mongoose Californian i had bitd.

Who knows i might do it one day.

I found my original Ammaco F&F a few years back  :smitten:

Had it for years  :smitten: jumped milk crates on it, bunny hopped house bricks, raced my first two seasons of regional’s on it, gave my mates backies on it  :daumenhoch:

And that was my ultimate grail.

The only way I knew it was mine is because the number stamped on the frame was in my cycling proficiency pass book  :daumenhoch:

And I will always be grateful to Spen  :4_17_5:

I've had it re-chromed as I felt the old girl deserved it and I'm slowly (its been 3-4 or even 5 years now) getting all the parts together, as I will only buy them when they come up cheap (ish)  :daumenhoch:

I'm still looking for a set of NOS Red MX1000's and a set of NOS MKS Graphite’s for less than £100  :2funny: :2funny:

Like I say I'm in no rush  :daumenhoch:
I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

I live and always have lived in the same old small town in the North  .

BMX must have been real big here comparatively , going from what alot of comments I;ve read

We had plenty of areas on spareland dug out for ramps and makeshift pipes.

The local leisure centre held an indoor racing and Chorley track was only 15 mins away

Every man and his dog had a BMX and people I rode with had

1 MK1 Pro burner ,MK2 Supergoose ,2 DB HLT , 3 P.K Rippers , 1 Skyway T/A , 1 Pro Class , 1 E.T Kuwahara ,1 Kuwahara laserlite ,1 Black chrome GT, 1 Redline PL20, 1 Torker Torkflyte, 1 Torker Pro X , 2 Prolite CCampbell, FST , 1 Haro Freestyler gen 1 , 1 VDC Changa ,ALL lived in my town ,but I don't recall anyone  owning a JMC or a Quad
Besides the countless Falcon Pro Beta, zeta, Theta , sigma

I thought every town was the same or lots lots more  ???

, but having said that alot got a BMX for christmas and left the hobby after about 12 to 18 months  :-\

My 1st BMX was a 2nd hand Ripper (2 serial #)  and always loved the SE adverts and reviews and from then on SE was the brand for me.

More pics of your grail frames/bikes would be cool  8)

So all my grail frames are frames that I never saw in the flesh but know of from way back, I'm lucky enough to have to of the 3 frames.
STR-1 Prototype now owned by Jeff.

There only one ""grail"" for me now. The Haro anniversary frame. I want to sell my Hoffman big daddy to partly finance the purchase of components that will build a carpet queen and then also build another one to ride.

Or should I say three? the 3rd to hang on the wall.

Or four? the fourth as an investment........

Dammit!!!  you could keep going with this. At least I have listed my ideas in correct priority order.

 :)

It was Simon who found it you cuddly fool...... I just brokered the deal.....

And you are one lucky boy indeed. I would love to find my Mongoose Cali with my old postcode stamped on it. Bought about half a dozen on th off-chance over the last few years but no such luck......

My Torker. Built exactly as I had it in 1985 except the re-issue tyres (as I ride it) and I have swapped out the '87 Torker bars for something a little older. I need blue ODI mushroom's too  :(

The bike I always lusted after after seeing Glen's. The estate's spoilt brat  :yahoo_silent:   :D
