GT Questions
« on: July 10, 2006, 08:49 PM »
A few questions for the GT experts regarding the early 80's race frames:

1) What year did they change the down tube frame decal from 'Santa Ana' to '4130 Chrome moly' ?
2) What year did the end of the top tube change from a vertical cut finish to the sloping ?
3) I am pretty sure that the sloping end was stamped but was the earlier vertical one?
4) What year did they start drilling the forks?
5) Serial number info for dating and isn't there an additional number that signifies whether it is a expert or Pro
6) Top tube lengths c/c for the Experts and Pro
7) When did the rear dropouts change to include the 3 holes?

Cheers in advance :daumenhoch:

84 for the angle(bologne i think it's called) cut i got a a gt from 01/84 with a straight cut one of the last, santa anna was a factory/place so maybe when they moved production away. flat end not stamped, serial is month/ year 1181 for example rest is production number. pro's had a small 4 between the stays. top tube is something i have never measured on any of my bikes.

I think that info with the letters is for the late 80's and early 90's GT's

Letters were overseas frames staring with '85
