Is it normal for the water to turn cloudy? After a few hours. ?

Yes

Cover it and leave it for 24 hours and then wash off with clean water.

It's been in 3 hours just took the forks out and it wipes off ok. Not touched the rust yet no yellowing , so your saying leave it in for 24 and it still should wipe off ok. ?

It takes a good 24 hours for it to work, the rust will eventually be replaced by a white residue that will wipe off and hey presto no rust.

Ah yeah I know it takes that long but I've seen pics of a frame that's been stained by a white powder from a Oxylic acid bath.

Looking at that thread I would imagine that there was a flaw in the nikel plating that the OA somehow managed to penetrate or that the guy used WD40 etc on the frame 1st.

I have never had any problems with 24 hours in OA, but with anything you take a chance when restoring things.

Thats a stunning result!! Ive had some really good experiences with OA too. How much are you adding to the water mixture?

3 table spoons in a builders mixing /dog bath and about 28 hours.

Fair play! I use a really big tray that used to be the base of an old rabbit cage. It holds about 50 litres or so. I was under the impression that using more OA would work better so i added the best part of 250g to a hot water mix. The bits and bobs that i did worked a treat but almost not as good as yours. Maybe less is more with this stuff?

I used the guide on the museum. But read a lot of threads where people have added too much the reaction has happened quicker and ended up staining and they then had to polish the hell out of the frame to remove the marks. I didn't use hot water either just straight out the tap.

That will do I got the 1kg tub from that seller.
If you have the space I've read you can leave the bath full and re use it for up to a year without adding more acid.
