I have no idea what were talking about, but a company called Collinite make some damn good waxes. One of them is called insulator wax and can be used as release agent. Dunno if that is any good. I use it on my car and it lasts months.

Release powder (or wax) is a release agent for tyre moulding to stop the tyre from sticking during manufacturing. Its a hard to remove whitish powder that you see on some NOS tyres.

Some people leave it on, I wanted to remove it off a set of Comp III's

Try panel wipe (or degreaser!)as known in trade!

Keep the tire dry and use a toe nail brush and your fingers.
I had some that had long since stopped being powder. It had turned to something terrible and the tires looked a right state so it had to go.
If it had stayed powdery i would have kept it.

The white powder forms over time as rubber degrades, it being described as release agent is wrong and a bit of a myth.

If you ride a motorcycle you come across release agent on tyres, it's a waxy coating and you have scrub it off before you can rely on them.

Best advise is use something that's going to nourish and protect the rubber.

i'd have thought that too. rubber is white until they add the carbon black. i always thought it was a bit of seepage

I used Armourall on mine came straight off and keeps the rubber supple

The best way to get the powder off is with a stiff bristle brush and just keep working on it - it will come off and leave the tire with sinny rubber but still grippy if ridden - if it's for show then after you can use a tyre shine (but will be slippy as hell if ridden)


you just have to use elbow grease and a good brush for a longh time - but the end result will look good if seen to the end
