Its all gone

Really glad to see the back of it!  As a rider, collecting and storing old expensive stuff is completely pointless.
Now I have my cash back as well as space.  :coolsmiley:

i really dont get all this 'i ride my bikes' superiority complex.

whats wrong with collecting?

fook....if i collected action men would you expect me to play war on my mum's carpet.

that's fair enough then, that's your opinion.

it's the tone sometimes.

i know your a rider...and by all accounts a very good one.

i just don't get why the need to bash people who collect.

one man's useless is another man's pride and joy.

and collecting is some people's pleasure.

its their thrill of the chase.

As stated, to me, if it has no use its useless.  This is my opinion, if its valuable and doing nothing in a room its pointless keeping it.

So what about works of art, antique furniture...?  ??? Is Kandinsky pointless...? Henry Moore, Francis Bacon, Damien Hirst...all pointless?

Just asking...

now that is an understatment if ever i herd one ........... make no mistake about it..... Glen can ride , and old school wouldnt last a minute in Glens hands if it was beeing ridden.  everyone is different and if "collecting" isnt your thing then why not sell on to someone who wants it more than you  :daumenhoch:

Hehehe.....

I dared to mention this 'issue' a few years back.

I stated there were two types of people on here - riders and collectors. Some dabbled in both, but not much in reality. Your heart lies where it lies and that's that. I got roasted by some.

I can fully see how a room full of collectable bikes would be useless to you. Equally, a lot of lads on here wouldn't entertain a £1k+ new school bike.

To each their own.  I've lost count of the amount of times I've had to say to people " I'm not old school - I'm just old"...

I have a few "old bikes". They are pretty much useless to ride (cos new bikes are way better) but they are ridable and a long way of Mint show bikes. They mainly just sit in the shed, taking up room and not doing much. Every now and again, when Im in there (usually getting my "real" bike to go riding) I look at them and go ........ "hmmmmm. I like those". I imagine its the same as if I had a nice painting. I like them, so I keep them.

Having said that, I know I wont keep them forever and Im sure I'll feel a bit sense of relief when i DONT own a load of bikes I dont ever ride.

I have a good few bikes in my "collection" and none of them get ridden (I have a 2012 T1 that I use for that). Thing is, to me the bikes in my collection are just like paintings. I look at my Holmes and it reminds me of the good times I had back in 94/95/96 on a bike exactly like that one. In the same way my Bennett reminds me of the first dirt comp I ever won, the first barspin I ever did, etc, etc. I could go on about each one of the bikes I have because each one has been "collected" of a specific reason. I dont need to ride them to enjoy them because I already rode the hell out of them over the last 20+ years. Now what they are just momentos of all the years of good times BMX has brought me. Do I want more? yes. Will I keep them all forever? No. but there are definitely one or two I will never part with.

I dont believe in collecting just to own things that are rare or valuable, but I also dont believe that nothing should be owned unless its used for its intended purpose. Whats most important is that whatever you own you enjoy, and if you dont then buy all means get rid of it so that someone else can.  :daumenhoch:
