HELP: MTB A-Headset Problem!!........PLEASE!!
« on: July 05, 2006, 10:16 PM »
Guys,

I know its not BMX but you guys care about an unhappy soul......please help!!  :'( :'(

Had my MTB frame re-sprayed, trying to put it back together and am having problems with the forks??........There is a small ring that I had to take off the bottom of the steerer on the old forks to put on the new, but it won't fit on properly.  How do I get it to fit???

Bottom

Also the top part of the headset doesn't look right but it is back to how it should be?

Top

All comments welcome!!

Thanks
Stace

You could use a short length of scaffold pole to "whack" the lower race into place or as Lazychubs asys a large ring spanner or open ended spanner that fits snug over the top of the race (i.e. won't slip over it when hit with a hammer) or else use a very wide bladed flat screw driver and tap the race into place by tapping one side, then the other and so on working your way round the race.

Alternatively a trip to your local bike shop might be in order  :LolLolLolLol:

Use the scaffold tube method or take it to a shop, it goes on square and unbent that way.
as for the top, it looks like you have a sealing topcap missing to me
 :) DINGO :)

Just been on the Cane Creek website and your right it does look like the upper cover is missing.  I don't recall ever seeing one though!!

Any ideas where I could pick a replacement up as I'm confident I won't find it!!!

Thanks
