Weird PK Ripper headtube pics
« on: June 28, 2006, 10:45 AM »
I have a pk ripper frame, serial number  PK2475 - and it had a very weird hedtube ... it looks like a 1.1/8" headtube, but with an inserted collar inside it. This collar means that it will take a 26.4 x 30.2  headset [smaller diameter than regular 1", I think road bikes use them. I have one  that fits]
I seem to remember SE doing this, but Im not sure. Anyone shed any light on this strange piece of engineering? The collar is slightly off centre so the top headset cup sits to one side slightly. The forks still fit on fine though.
The frame is the model with the downtube cable guides and hole for a Pitbull brake on the chainstay wishbone. I know they did these in both 1" and 1.1/8".
Any info if anyones seen this on an SE before would be great! Thanks. Steve

maybe it was so they supply 1" or "oversized" but still use the same frame.

thinking about it, i bet a lot of companies did the same

Motomag - how did you wallop them out? Was it easy? And did it  take 1.1/8"  cups straight after?

Steve - i came across this on a redline frame, where someone had used a set of 1 inch threaded forks in a 1.18th frame, i reckon it was done at the 'kind of crossover times' where aheadset forks were scarse- ie you cant use threaded
forks in a 1.18 without the top cup being 1 inch

-plus i reckon the guy that fitted the top one in your frame, knew what he was doing, as fitting it like that would add some rake to the fork angle, making it less twitchy

-plus of course, it would save money on having to buy new forks/headset/stem
