Peugeot Black Lion BMX resto
« on: July 25, 2012, 11:27 PM »
Bought this as a complete bike off ebay for about 30 quid just over a year ago. Don't know much about these bikes, and I only ever knew one person who had one bitd. I'm guessing it was an entry level bike, as it weighed a ton with it's original parts. I think it's from 1984, but am not too sure. I certainly saw one in 1984/85. This is how it looked when I picked it up:

The one I remember from 1984 had a different blue/yellow/gold colour scheme which I preferred. Got the frame repainted and repro decals from Del:

I wanted to reduce the weight of the bike and upgrade the parts, so it's not to factory spec. It's taken me a year to get the parts together, but I finished it today and here it is:

Parts list:

Peugeot Black Lion Frame, Forks & Bars.
Repro decals from Del.
Unbranded stem painted blue to match.
Repro padset from Firebird (Steve).
YST headset.
Dia Compe Tech 3 levers in gold (anodised by Mark @ CCA) - Thanks Mark!
Dia Compe type brakes.
Unbranded retro grips (guaranteed to give you blisters within 5 minutes).
Suntour style seat clamp in gold (Thanks again Mark!).
Cr-Mo unbranded layback post.
Velo MX style seat.
Victor SX 500 Pedals.
Sugino Chainring.
Unbranded power disc.
Sugino 175mm cr mo 1 piece crank.
YST bottom bracket.
Dicta freewheel.
Unbranded chain.
Unbranded Araya 7x style rims in gold with shiny sides.
Suzue low flange hubs in gold.
Cheng Shin 20 x 1.75 tyres comp 3 style tread.

Hope you like it  :)

Loving that  :smitten:

I remember these from BITD always like them as it was something different to burners, Ammaco's, Sliver Streaks etc etc

You've done a nice resto there fella  :daumenhoch:
I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

I had a black one as my first bike. Had steel skyway type mags and an unstamped GT style Mallet stem on it and yellow vinyl pads. Ill post some pics when i get a chance

Great resto, brought back some memories looking at that.

Ill dig them out. I have a feeling mine was slightly earlier, didn't look as refined as yours. Ill post them up and see what you think....

I think it's because it's the white framed version. Found this pic of an original blue paint job black lion. This bike went unsold on ebay a few years back. I couldn't bid on it as the person selling it lived in Northern Ireland and refused to ship it to the uk (even though I would be paying the postage). The lion's tail appears to be all black in the pic. I do think that a white tail would look good though.
