which freewheel remover

without those fancy tools, what is the best way to get it off today?

unscrew the centre plate (part with the 2 holes) then remove the cog section, bearings, pawls etc....

so your just left with the bare body of the freewheel, now lock this part in a vice and twist the wheel off of the freewheel

dont do what i did a few year ago and undo the stamped plate with the lug holes

thats the only way he's gonna get it off without the correct tool, it can be rebuilt easily enough afterwards but as its a cheap nasty dnp one id just bin it

pin punch or centre punch in hole and hammer anticlockwise it should eventually move. sometimes a few hits the other way first (tighten it) helps break the seal of any corrosion

removed one like this the other day on the neighbours daughter bike and it was proper rusty. gave it a spray with GT85 and left 10mins then did above and it came off no bother

Just make sure the diameter is correct.

I wouldn't undo it via the dimples as that is just gonna release all it guts and you've still not got it off.

the tool Steve has linked to won't work. if you look carefully it has slots under the pins that sit in a recess on the freewheel

yours doesn't have them. the front plate on your freewheel only unscrews clockwise. so going anticlockwise will not cause it to open and spill its guts.

like i said the method I used above worked fine for me

It is a cheap crappy Chinese freewheel so removing it in pieces isn't a bad idea (The only way to remove them without the aid of the proper tool). Bin it and get something decent like Shimano, Suntour, ACS or if your budget will allow, A White Industries freewheel.

I have this tool and it is successful in removing that type of freewheel.

if you look at picture of the freewheel, the two slots (02:40 if it were a clock) on the silver center section of the freewheel is what you will be removing.

But hey, if you're not planning to reuse it.....       Crack the hammer out

UPDATE: Using a screwdriver and hammer (and the technique mentioned above) I managed to
remove this 200gr. piece of $hit. The mf weigh about the same as the Skyway it was attached to...
I will use this as a freebie in my next for sale thread haha. Thanks for all the good info doled out.
