SNAP ... DP resuscitation
« on: July 21, 2012, 01:09 PM »
I saw this DP frame around at MK last year but wasn't looking for something that broken :-) I didn't realise it had been snaffled up and tucked away in a Sheffield loft for a year until a chance conversation got it into my hands :-)

Theres something very likeable about this frame...

Firstly... it was RIDDEN - it must have been to have been snapped.

Secondly it was ridden well past its era... nearly 10 years!... the application of the 94 Master decals ( including the ironic Megatube stickers ) show that the rider really wanted a megatube Master, but couldn't afford it.. so a new paint job and decals on the DP had to do. Who's not done something like this at sometime in their BMX past.

Thirdly the application of the grip tape - in a variety of positions on the bike that showed the owner was probably a bit of a ground specialist and was up for a variety of tricks that got him all around the bike.

Although sadly lacking its forks, this really feels like a project worth taking on... to heal a frame thats been well ridden in its former life and get it back to a ridable form. It's projects like this that Landing Gear forks were made for.

I've done a temporary repair just to keep the broken tube in line and I've set to work stripping and cleaning to see what lies beneath ( first impressions show an early MKII with the serial 0450 ).

The gods of metal work repair Mr Phil Sawzall & Mr Steve Animal have been consulted and plans are being made.

Griff, it was Tim "Foldschool" Oldschool mate, and he needed a set of Tuffs so Hootski obliged and took the frame in P/X after Steve and Phil had scratched their heads and drank many beers trying to figure out how to repair it :2funny:

Si was going to get it done but has about 5,000 other projects on, so Ed said he was after one and ta-da, it's now in Liecestercestershire....

Looking forward to seeing this get done Ed - gutted for you as Nige B gave me a set of perfect copy Landing Gear forks that would have been ace for this but I gave them to that Dordy fella when he needed a set..... see if he still has them mate :coolsmiley:
Still limping......

Temporary repair with a section of tube from some 1 1/8th forks - bolted through to the headset... the forktube was the exact fit!

couple of dents where the chain stays join the BB ... maybe from a bashguard clamp?

yep. result of the crash that snapped the tube - not attempted to bend them back ... leaving that to the pros  :daumenhoch:
