DP Firebird fork damage.

Hi all,

Iv'e just aquired a DP Firebird GL Plus and in general it's in great condition.

The only problem with it is some damage to the top of the forks as can be seen below.



Now this won't be seen when the forks are in the frame but i'm just wondering what others would do with this, should i just leave it or should i atempt to improve it?

After a conversation last night with Steve "Firebird" Dobson he thought it may have been caused by some bearings escaping from the race and grinding round in the haed but on inspection inside the head there's no evidence of this as shown here.



So what do you think caused it and what would you do with it?

Strange as there all the same size

i would say bearing caught - but frame may not be the one it was in ?


I would leave it as it won't affect it in any way

heres a tip ...............go to your local car auto parts store ..........ask for a stainless metal fibre bog .....

its as tough as they come in fact can with stand powder coaters oven temps of over 200 c

here is our 2 ....no1- pin hole filler ....no2 stainless patching ....both are 2 part


IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT THREADS AND NON  .-WORKING ZONES  ARE TO BE PROTECTED AND TAPED/ COVERED .....

THATS A SWEET RIDE MATE .............taking a closer look .........i would also purchase emery paper hard cut 180 /240 grit .....if you run a strip over the area of paper and in a SHOE SHINE FASHION  over de-burring the pitts it would also help ..


caution .........threads ............nut holes etc non zones are to be protected .....

That's what i first suspected, I'm considering a fluorescent green powder coat from SBD and i like the look of your DP. Any chance you could send me some photo's of it in the sun to see how bright it is? Most of the photo's of the fluorescent green DP's I've seen just don't quite look bright enough to me compared to the original BITD.

ask your local guy powder as fluros are not often in powder larger works ........therefore not wise in powders box purchase ......here ....

i suggest highly ....................................note ...#.powder ........the make /name serial number of your find .............and that will ensure your treasure is powdered exactly that ... ........................also in powder .................every damage item must be repaired as fluro /whites will make them eye sores ..

Yes it does, you need to order the powder from Rosey's in the states and Dan will do the magic.

Any idea what went wrong with this one using Rosey's neon pink?

Nothing like the origonal dp pink on the bars.



Is it just down to the skill of the powder coater to get the right effect?

I'd even swap my complete 91 Sport for a GL Plus with Ladder bars ... probably.

The pink is hard to photograph, actually I think all neons are tbh.
