Hi everyone!
« on: August 29, 2012, 04:11 PM »
Hi folks! Been trying to get 'round to joining you all on here for some time and now finally got my finger out!

Not sure if I should post this here but I'm hankering after what, in my BMX'ing day days (early 80's) was the Holy Grail - a PK Ripper. I had to make do with a classic GT racer that I built up as I could afford it! I used to take that bike everywhere - especially enjoyed going up to my (now late) Grandmother's place in those days in a place called Dersingham, Norfolk. In fact, I ended up selling the bike to a young guy who lived there (Valley Rise) and I often wonder what ever happened to it and whether it's still around!

So, the PK issue: can anyone advise me on where to start with this one? I'm starting to realise that (what I would consider to be) one of the 'original' versions of this bike are fetching huge money(?) But finding one is proving to be even harder! What's the general consensus on these newer limited addition loop-tails that seem to be around? There also seem to be one or two totally amazing examples of them owned by collectors on this forum; do they ever sell them on?

Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated!

Cheers,

Gal.

Welcome to RAD Gal.  :daumenhoch:
Those rippers do pop up on here every now and then, might even be worth doing a search to if any are still available.  ;)
Good Luck on your search, prepare to just leave your wallet open... ;D

EDIT: Just had a little look and it would appear Adam's is still available;

Rippers do come up but they fetch good money even the ones that need a bit of work

look on US ebay still the odd bargin on there  ;)

The retro ripper are good for a Pub/roll around bike and its a "flavor" of what it use to be  :smitten:

Ash (Kungfunky) its a good bloke to speak to about anything SE

But be careful, he fiddles with small woodland animals  :idiot2:

Oh and we all take the p1ss out of each other on here

Well along bud  :daumenhoch:

Hi Peter.

Thanks for you lovely welcome and the information - maybe Ash will be along here at some point...?

Out of interest, what do you think that I'd be looking at paying for something like a mint Ripper with great spec.? I know that's a big question but it might give me some sort of idea.

Thanks again.

Gal.

look to buy a frame and forks used ones go for about

£300 - £400 with stamped landing gear forks

to build a complete to decent spec with used parts round about £1000 +

Can you tell me what you mean by 'stamped' Landing Gear forks? I've seen this quite a lot and I'm not certain - are they referring to a hole for a front brake..?

Ask any question fella thats what we are all here for

Stamped means at the bottom of the fork where its "back cut" the older versions just had a flat plate were as the newer ones (think it was 85 on but cannot quite remember) had "SE" stamped on them

Look at V.Noah's white one with the chrome forks on here

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=4579.25

There are a few versions of LG's but 95% of them are "stamped" or "unstamped"

Hope this is as clear as mud

God almighty! That is pure porn, that lot! Pass the Optrex! Nice to see that some of them look like they're used too!!  ;)

I see a lot without their chains - I'm guessing that this is because they're not ridden..?
