Ammaco Qs
« on: March 16, 2012, 01:12 PM »
I collected a supergoose at the weekend and couldn't say no to this Ammaco as I've always wanted one and it makes my colelction complete (famous last words!).

Can anyone confirm which Ammaco it is please?

I think there are quite a few non standard parts, like the forks, bars stem and wheels - but don't know if they are any good?

Is it possible to repair the gusset too?

Freestyle king or something like that?   ???

by the way they all split there which is why they later filled the whole in on the gusset

I think it may be an early 90's one,it has the same bars and stem as one my mate bought recently which is a 91/92.The old freestyle king/pro came with CW type bars i think!unless someone has put later bars on?? :idiot2: :daumenhoch:

Mid 80's Freestyle King/Ace/Pro frame with a collection of odd parts.  Only difference between the 3 was the parts spec, and Pickle's right, they were renowned for splitting in that gusset area.  A skillful welder might be able to spot it on the rear face?  :daumenhoch:

Id weld that up for you FOC. Looks like steel with chrome plating. It would need to be re-chromed after tho.  :)

Many thanks for the replies and kind offer to weld it FOC (where abouts are you based pls?)

The front head tube has this sticker, but then stickers can be added to anything! It does feel very light.

I'd really like to know where the forks are from. They have to guides for the cable for a pots mod.

Thanks. I may take you up on that offer sometime. My supergoose is going to need welding too if I ever manage to take the iron rod out of the seat tube!

Hi

I'm sure it's a Freestyle (King / Ace / Pro) up to 1984 as I think in 85 the gusset was soild (as previosuly mentioned) due to cracks that most suffered. All models were 4130 Chromoly but the cheapest in the range ("King") didn't have 4130 forks and these differ visually as the Ace and the Pro had slanted end to the forks whereas the Kings were flat. I'm not sure they are the original forks although I cannot see them properly in the photos.

Hope that's helpful

Cheers

Rich

Very helpful, thanks.

I'll get a close up picture of the forks sometime soon.

Agree with comments already, here's mine http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=130319.0 as you can see the forks are different and I have the solid gusset.

Will look nice when done and they are very nice to ride!  :daumenhoch:

Thanks for that! So they are an upgrade over standard Ammaco parts?

I wouldn't have said so myself.  If the frame was an Ace or Pro, the original forks were very similar to landing gear in looks and 4130 too.

Stem kind of depended where you bought it.  I snapped mine bitd as it was the only cheap component on the bike to be fair.
