NOS Profile Champ Mini Shelby James
« on: June 29, 2012, 02:07 PM »
Afternoon gents,

I have this NOS Profile Champ Mini Shelby James frameset which I would like to get built up soon but I'm not sure which way to go with it. It has a bit of light rust peppering (due to me dumping it in the shed for about 2 years and not wrapping it properly  :idiot2:) which would probably clean off to leave an awesome original chrome finish. I prefer painted frames however so I was thinking of stripping the chrome and powdering black. I'm not building this to a Shelby James spec so it doesn't matter which option I choose but I would like your opinions on frame colour and parts colours too please, I'm a bit stuck on this one.

Thanks in advance.

Adam

I wouldn't personally strip the chrome though

Good luck

Chrome would clean up easy mate, look at my thread in tech/resto for coca cola and tin foil, then autosol (or ideally Peek) the life out of it, will come up mint. Or send to Bendy the polishing master. Don't strip it though whatever you do :)

Nice frameset Adam  8)

That frame is far too nice to strip imo , it would come up a treat with a bit of time . ( coke/ lemon juice and tin foil or an oxalic bath  ;) )

Don't use Autosol on chrome , it's an abrasive ..... just use Peek or something non abrasive to polish  :daumenhoch:

Blue or gold components or a mixture of the two would look nice imo   :-\

Not one for the BMX Police myself but stripping and painting it would be a crime  :bondage:  :police:

Love a Profile.  :smitten:

Chrome, black or white for the frame. Gold, red or blue (choose one form the three) for parts as they'll link nicely with the decals.

Look forward to seeing this finished.

That chrome would polish up so nice with a bit of work, my R&R was in awful condition but with some magic powders (forget the coke and foil this is much better) and a lot of hard work it looks amazing.

Up to the R&R this is near mint.

Don't strip it you Plank,

i know you don't really like chrome frame sets but you can't get that finish again, if you want colour do it to a used frame  ::)

That frame would look nicer hanging on the wall of your cave in all of it's virgin glory, than toshed over in black, built and never ridden coz it's too small.

It only needs a clean.

You can scatt all over chrome to give it an alternitive colour and also a texture. It even gives you the option to have a fun evning with your family making diners that you can guess on the texture of the finish the next morning.. :daumenhoch:. After all this fun you can simply wash it off or lick it off, the choice is obviously yours. The only problem i've found is the decals dont take very well to scatt unfortunatly..

Kind Regards

Simon. :)
