Goose Cali coming together...
« on: June 23, 2012, 09:35 PM »
Hi All,
Well tonight I started putting this together...

I waited ages for these forks to arrive but now they're on I'm not sure if they're bent!  :-\ What are your thoughts on the angle?
Cheers
Matt

Hmmmm, there seems to be hell of a forward rake on them Matt.  :-\
One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.

That was my concern... :'( No other marks on them and no visible damage. Might keep a look out for another pair anyway.  ::)

They def bent but not sure if its the legs or steerer. To check put look at the bike side on and check the lower headset race that sits on the fork crown. It should sit level with the lower headset cup. If the front of the race is deeper in the cup then the back then the steerer is bent. If its level then its the legs.

I could be wrong but im sure there is a set of earlier goose forks that shape. I have some on my 82 goose that look bent and ive been told thats how they were. If so you just have the wrong forks

Hey Matt, are there any metal fabricators around our area? I am sure they would be able to bend the steerer tube back a little at the crown race if you just explain what the issue is  ;)

Or you could just ride it into a wall, making sure you dismount before hitting it of course  ;D

Good luck with that Matt, took me 9 months to find a set.

Personally i'd find someone who has access to a press and get them in to that. Phone your local metalworkers mate or ask on here as people like animal (steve) may have usage of something like that.

No idea Terry, might check out the industrial estate and see what's down there.  :daumenhoch:

Yep they look bent even by early goose fork standards .
Check what they are though because if they are early you don't want to go too far when having them fixed. :coolsmiley:

Looking good Matt.  :daumenhoch:

Saw a kid on his bike the other day and was about tell him he'd got his forks back to front (AKGOFF style) only to realise they were bent backwards. Didn't have the heart to tell him his forks was fooked.

OK, these are not goose forks but they're straight and look nice on here I think. Thanks to TIMMO1966.  :daumenhoch:
Anyone know what they might be? I'm holding back placing the Mongoose decals on... ::)
