I remember buying Jason Hoad"s used white street beat frameset from Raff (of no softies cycles and skates in Gillingham) for £50 in 1986. A skyway hot seat cost me £8. Haro tyres a tenner or thereabouts....

My 1st bmx was a Raleigh Super Burner that my parents bought for me for Christmas 1981 & I think it cost them £110 which at the time was a lot of money & back then, neither my parents or many of my friends parents for that matter had much money to spare. Most of the kids back then had various burners, mostly standard burners that I think were around £95, a few of us had super burners which at the time we thought were the dogs bollox, one lad did have an ultra burner which were around £140, the rest had a mixture of team murrays from halfords, halfords turbo's as well I seem to remember were quite popular but nobody had the high end stuff. Then for my 13th birthday in 1983, my parents bought me a firebird freestyler frame & forks from county racing in Pontypridd, South Wales. The frame & forks complete with a tange headset cost £65! I thought it was ace right up until it snapped at the headtube, for those of you not in the know, the 1st generation DP freestylers had a top tube that was about 9 feet long & this caused the frames to break at the headtube. DP soon realised this & anyone who broke their 1st gen DP freestylers had them replaced free of charge for the gen 2 with the altered frame geometry. One other thing that I find quite ironic is the fact that the price of a pair of Skyway mags has hardly changed in over 30 years, back in the early 80's they cost £60 a pair, pretty much the same as they do today! Ah, happy days, brilliant memories & part of my life I will always cherish. :)

Which is why you can never buy a TA as a RIDER. Mine snapped underneath the headtube, I found this out whilst I was riding it due to the back end swaying from side to side. My metalwork teacher said it was no trouble to weld and fix. He returned it to me with a welded gusset underneath!!!    AaAaAAAAAArrRrGhhhhh!!!!

Just found a picture of me achieving "NO AIR" status after watching Kick Start on my Puch - does anyone know what this weighty beast was called? I am looking to see if I have a better photo....

Then ignoring the matching LFC kits (I am on the left after lending my cousin the home kit) - tight short central........................ This is the Pacer 500 (think) that Mum upgraded me to!! That was sold for narcotics..................My take on being Zammo from Grange Hill!

No idea what my cousin is riding, although just spotted I am sporting my much loved "Patrick Liverpool" trainers..........and yes that is Mum's Triumph in the background...OUCH - no wonder I declined lifts!!
