Sugino CT 175 Cranks - race or freestyle?
« on: May 06, 2012, 09:24 PM »
Hi all

I finally got a set of CT 175 cranks from a RAD member.  Wanted them for ages and really pleased with them.

Anyway, the arms are so thin I have always wondered if they were originally intended for just racing?  I only have freestyle bikes so the cranks will be going on one of these but are they going to snap the moment I take a rough landing?

These are not mine but its a good picture that kinda shows how thin the arms are:

ta,

Paul

Freestyle. Race cranks were Generally Ally. They were a cheap version of 400s

Freestyle. Race cranks were Generally Ally

Generally   :)

Except for 400's , 401's ,Profiles , Harry leary turbo cranks, Cw cranks, Hutch Aerospeeds,Bullseye ,Terry cable cranks ,,,, and :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

But alloy ones definately race  :)

I think Sugino CT were issued on race AND freestyle bikes

Diamond back's and Haro's respectively

but although cro mo and heavy ( heavier than flights) I 've heard stories of them bending  :-\

To be honest I only raced bitd and cannot remember seeing them on anyone's bike.  I would imagine somebody, somewhere used them but most people used Redline, Profile, Cook Bros etc.

They were generally considered as an entry level racing setup but not recommended for competition racing because they were a little heavy.  :daumenhoch:

Morning

thanks all.  I suspected they were okay for freestyle as you see them on lots of builds; its just that they look so thin.

I weight 75kg so not really that heavy.

btw, they will either be going on a chrome DP Freestyler or a Vincent Airzone.  Not sure yet..

thanks again,

Paul

I knew a few national standard racers who used em :daumenhoch:
