1986 MBK MX500 Super Class
« on: April 29, 2012, 09:44 PM »
I saw this listed on the bay a while ago now. I checked out the info I could find on it and decided to have a punt due to it being quite rare. I was surprised to get it and at the start price but was really pleased when I unwrapped it.

I had no idea really where I was going with it apart from I wanted to really ride this thing  :)

I set about tolling with ideas when I got offered a NOS set of yellow ODI's and a NOS yellow Viscount Aero seat.

Having already bought a stunning set of Ukai's to steal the rims for my Goose, I now had a set of gold Suntour sealed hubs. I picked up a set of silver Ukai's from the bay with black Suntour sealed hubs, stripped them down and laced the gold Suntour's to the silver Ukai's.

Well, that was it, I decided to go gold/yellow/chrome and keep the decals that were already fitted.

A friend of mine in the US then presented me with a NOS gold Tuf Neck Pro stem and a mint Shotgun II saddle. My mate offered me his yellow A'me bubble fonts and NOS right gold Tech 3 lever and I picked up a NOS MX1000 and mustard rear cable on here. The yellow sharpie came from the bay.

I bought a few more parts and used some I had laying around. Picked up a NOS set  of unknurled GT pro bars from the US, a NOS Suntour chainring, used the twin pinch I already had laying around with a NOS spider and NOS bolts and chucked this little tiger together.

So...I had some very clean era correct 3rd gen Suntour XCII's that needed the cages sorting and I asked a very good friend of mine to have a go at doing his best. While I was waiting for these to be done and a few other parts to arrive, a few 'other' items came up here and there and a few changes were made to the final product. My mate came through with cage restoration and presented me with these  :smitten:

The final spec list to the bike after a few months of kicking it around are as follows:-

1986 MBK MX500 Super Class Frame and Fork
NOS Tioga MX2 Headset
NOS Gold Tange Headlock
NOS Tuf Neck Pro Model stem
NOS GT unknurled Pro Bars
Mint Yellow bubblefont A'me rounds
NOS Gold Dia Compe Tech 3 lever
NOS Cal Lite Yellow and Gold lever cover
NOS Yellow Sharp lever cover
NOS Mustard Yellow Dia Compe cable
NOS Gold Dia Compe MX1000
NOS White Dia Compe brake pads
NOS Gold Suntour Seat Clamp
New Redline Twin Pinch cranks
New DK Gold and Black BB
NOS Sugino Spider
NOS 44T Gold Sugino chainring
NOS Sugino chainring bolts
NOS KMC Inox Stainless Steel chain
Restored 3rd Gen Suntour XCII's
NOS Nitto seat post
Mint Yellow Cycle Pro Shotgun II
NOS Gold Araya 1.75 rims laced to NOS Gold Suzue looseball hubs flip flop rear
NOS White Ind. 16T freewheel
NOS Tioga Comp III Rainbow labels
NOS Red Haro plate with genuine decals

Sweet bike, if it was mine I'd put freestyle tyres on it with yellow tuffs
Thanks for all the complimentary messages brothers, appreciated  :daumenhoch: Definately french frame set, made by Motobecane, completely full cr-mo and saw no markings on the fork other than Cr-Mo stamped near the bottom of the blades. They did do 2 different types of freestyle frame sets but they are even rarer  :-\  >>>>  http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/mbk/

TT length is 19" and feels awesome on the steerer  :)
