NS help needed!!! Fork/headset problem
« on: April 27, 2012, 07:01 PM »
Just got a set of WTP forks back from SBD (superb job as always), and fit them to my Subrosa DTT with an FSA Impact headset.  Everything seemed to fit fine but when I tightened it all up, there is still some very noticable play in the headset.  Any ideas guys? Help me!!!  :-\

Have you enough spacers on Mark?

Tighten the top cap down then undo it and have a look if the top of the fork steerer is flush with the top of the stem, if so bung another spacer in  :daumenhoch:
2 minutes turkish...

Be sure the stem sits higher than the steerer by a good couple of mm to allow future adjustments and take a close look at the top cap too. some of them have a lip and sit slightly inside the stem so you have to take that into account too  ;)

Cheers rob, got it sorted now. Pushed the stem down hard against the spacers before tightening and it seems to have done the job  :daumenhoch:

Cool.  Do you not have a top cap though?  It's only there to set the headset up..

Yeah got the top cap.  The stem was quite tight on the fork and I don't think I properly pushed it down against the spacers first time off.  Seems to have done the trick whatever it was anyway.  I'm sure it will need adjustment after the first ride mind  :daumenhoch:

Ah yeah, not uncommon. It's been known for people to prise open the stem a bit to get it to drop onto the steerer.
