Odd seatpost clamp size
« on: April 24, 2012, 03:51 PM »
Can anyone suggest a generous size seatpost clamp (apart from a DC twin or hinge) as my Torker seatpost tube is just a little bigger than standard...?!

Right, Ive measured the seatpost tube on the Torker & it has a circumference of 81.5cm. Measured my TA & thats 80cm... Why the fúck would it be 1.5cm bigger??!!?!? Stupid...

Thickness of the paint/powder could easily account for that  :-\ .

ok so the seat clamp doesn't go on

does the seat post you have slide in smooth or tight ?

have you tried a couple of different post in there ?

you know the 1.5 mm could be a seat post that was slightly larger fitted and has opened up the seat tube top where the split is ?

maybe measure the thickness of the metal on a couple of your other bmx's to see what they are like ?

you may find it's thicker ?

you may also find that with the right seat post you can squeeze together the seat post about 1.5 mm and it will allow a good clamp on there ?

Does a newschool clamp fit? If so,it`ll be a 28.6mm (1 1/8) internal diameter.

Right:

80MM circumference  = 25.4mm Diameter

81.5MM circumference = 25.9mm Diameter

http://www.rkm.com.au/calculators/calculator-circle-sphere.html

I would suggest that it's MM not CM as it would have to be a fooking huge frame  :LolLolLolLol:

That level of difference is tiny, less than half a millimetre so most likely within a manufacturing tolerance.  Try opening up the seat post clamp a little when you put it on or sand down the inside of the clamp with wet & dry to remove some of the material.  Obviously opening the clamp up a little with a wooden wedge is the least damaging to the clamp!
