Guys, thought would share this with you. This is the bike I have on its way from over the pond. The ever helpful Mr Costa has already been giving me tips on things to look for etc. Its a Japanese made '85 and was bought by the owner for his son in '85.

Reckon it will take about a year to arrive, but hopefully with all the Forum help on shipping I will not get shafted by HMRC!  :2gunsfiring_v1:

First job on arrival will be stripping........will be looking through the Forum for tips on dying the rims (apparently Steve says 6 spokes are a win!) and rust removal before sending off to the legend that is SBD.

Watch this space, and any help is appreciated!

These are the photo's the guy sent me whilst he was taking it to pieces......

Fcuk restoring it, that's a real survivor, leave it as it is or it will just end up another costa build

Is there a 'survivor' section on here where people don't touch them at all?

That really would be a shame to repaint, I do love a survivor.  :-\

petes got a point about leaving it as a survivor,

but if you do restore it be different to the 99% of  people who have restored a 85 overseas performer on here and put the right decals on it  :daumenhoch:

Everything has been painted, polished, re -chromed to death, survivors just don't come up. One of the best bikes I see at MK last year was a pukka survivor haro original everything, next time I see it it's been repainted and looked quite cr@p thh

Well if I was not confused before, I sure am now!

I get the whole preservation piece (sort of) and Mr Costa had already pointed out on the original eBay photos that it was a Japanese import..................

However, I can't see that I will be able to watch it rot away............ loving the line about wiping it's ar$£

Can see from Terry's examples that there is a difference here between a survivor that has been locked away in quality conditions, and one that has been decaying!

Decisions, Decisions!!

Def keep it as a survivor. all three of mine are OG finish (still cant believe how many good comments my Grey FS1 got on the london ride) in my eyes, BMX's were never ment to be spotless and perfect, they were used, abused, dropped outside the shops, scratched and chipped from falling off etc. each mark tells a story and gives it character.

my 'goose looks tidy from a distance, but marks and scratches up close :)

I say do what you want mate. And don't give a fcuk what anyone thinks on here.
I always build my builds how I want them.  And couldn't give a toss about other peoples opinions.  :daumenhoch:

Agreed.  Would a few minor touch ups then T-cutting the original paint offend the survivor fetishists?  Might be worth a try and cheaper than the whole strip and powder scenario - if you don't like, break out the Nitro-Mors.  >:D

Thanks for the advice all - really good to get a few opinions!

Mattbloke 'goose' looks epic............. nothing like the rust on mine - can see why it was rated!

I think you'd be surprised just how well that bike will clean up, taken to bits cleaned, greased with new grips, tyres, cables and brake blocks, chain if it needs it and it'll look spot on.

Just because there is a bit of surface rust doesn't mean it's not structurally sound, 9 times out of 10 rust looks worse due to staining around it, clean it off and it's usually just a small rust mark left behind.

I'm fixing this up to ride this summer, two pics of the same side.

Get hold of some Autoglym Motorcycle Cleaner   :daumenhoch:
